<p>Honestly, I see no need for a separate category, though we could rename it to Parody/Homage. </p>

"Allusion" would be the better terminology.

<p>Sure, I just want to make sure that serious allusions/homages are not grouped with comedic parodies, because they're not the same thing. Examples of seroius homages I found are: </p>

• Nightmare Rat (homage to FNaF)

• Preston (homage to the Terminator)

• Mr. Whiskers (homage to Dracula)

• Sonic.EXE (homage to Sonic the Hedgehog)

• Hypno (Creepypasta) (homage to the Hypno Pokemon)

<p>Just to name a few. None of these are comedic parodies, so they don't nesessarily belong with them. </p>

<p>An Allusion is anything which is a wink and a nod to something else. The amount of seriousness has nothing to do with it. </p><p>Examples: </p>

• Nearly everything and everyone in <i>Venture Bros</i> is an allusion to everything and everyone in <i>Jonny Quest</i>.
• "Running Man<i> has several allusions</i>
  • The game show format
  • "Cadre Cola" is an allusion to Coke or Pepsi cola, more so Coke as both have initials C C.
  • The Host, Damon Killian, is an Allusion to his actor, Richard Dawson's, run as host of the game show <i>Family Feud"</i>

<p>As you can see, one is a parody, but the other is not. Allusions are not tied to any one theme. They are meant to remind, hint, or wink at something similar. </p>

<p>That makes sense. But isn't an allusion a more subtle reference while a parody or homage is a bit more obvious? Like Shrek from Shrek is Love, Shrek is Life is not an allusion to Shrek, but a full-on dark comedy parody of the original charater? </p><p>The Parody category also states that because the charcaters are intended to be comedic, none can classify as Complete Monsters. Again, I have found several characters that are based off other charaters that DEFINATELY qualify, but can't simply because they're categorized as "Parodies"at the moment. </p>

<p>I'm the wrong person to discuss "Complete Monster" with. If I had my druthers we'd drop that category completely if for no other reason than the heated arguments and endless debates over whom qualifies or not. It's become tiresome. To me. </p><p>IMO, Allusions cover Winks, homages, and parodies regardless of their seriousness quotient. IMO. </p>

<p>Yes. Allusion is defined as: an expression designed to call something to mind without mentioning it explicitly; an indirect or passing reference. Most parodies and homages would not qualify. So, we have two possible options: </p>

• Rename the category Parody/Homage

• Leave the Parody category alone and create a seperate category called Homage.

<p>I personally vote for the second option, as I think it would be the easiest and most appropriate. </p>
