I think I’ll discuss a character from The Purge, Caleb Warrens. Do you think he’s pure evil?
I’ll try to explain since not everyone’s watched the Purge...or Election Day, where he’s prominent.
Summary:
The Purge is an event that happens annually in this movie series. During its time period (which is 12 hours), all crime is legal...with the exception of terrorism since that would most likely involve nuclear weapons and the like. You’re also not allowed to kill government officials. But generally, it’s survival of the fittest.
Who created the Purge, you ask? This guy.
Fortunately, not everyone is willing to partake in the Purge. Apparently their conscience tells them not to become purgers. Unfortunately, to make sure people DO die, the government sends the military to make sure there ARE casualties. Typically they target the homeless and the like.
When Roan decides she’s going to end the Purge (since one particular Purge ended with the death of her family), he decides he’ll have her killed. And in the process, he revokes the rule that government officials are safe...which means they’ll be even more casualties than usual.
He also wishes to spread the Purge worldwide...which would make it far worse than it is now.
How Evil Is He?
Since the Purge has its share of lunatics, it takes a very special kind of evil to qualify. But considering HE’s the one who created the Purge, well...
Redeeming Factors?
The Purge does reduce crime rate and prevents the US from being overpopulated, but that’s not why he created the Purge. The reason? He hates paupers with a passion. He refers to the Purge as simply “ spring cleaning.” Isn’t he sweet and lovable?
Final Thoughts
Technically, some of the protagonists are purgers (though one of the purgers simply wants to avenge his son, since a drunk driver accidentally killed him), but I figured that if anyone counts in this series, it’s him.
So...what do you think?
