Apparently TV Tropes think he’s the worst of the worst but I wanted to know what you think.
He’s a character from a cartoon based on Archie Comics which is normally lighthearted. And yes, I’m surprised such a character exists in one of its works.
==Who Is He?==
Mr. Avericci is a human...or at least was. Nowadays, he’s a demonic creature whose collecting souls. He had a debt to pay and he will do anything to do so.
==What Has He Done?==
Mr. Avericci opens up a giant mall known as Mallhalla. It causes smaller businesses to decline following its grand opening, but that’s not the worst part.
When Archie and his friends decide to visit, they realize that they don’t have money to pay for anything.
Fortunately (or unfortunately), Mr. Avericci decides to help. He offers them cards so they can go shopping. For some strange reason he knows their names.
When asked how they would pay him back, he assures them that everyone pays eventually. Foreshadowing, much?
Archie notes that people at his school seem to be missing, but the hypnotic music playing at his store makes him realize what is going on.
In truth, Mr. Avericci is turning everyone who uses up the money on their cards into mannequins. They know what’s going on but they can’t exactly do anything about it.
When Jughead finds out what’s happening, he demands an explanation. It turns out Mr. Avericci is planning to give his victim’s souls to his employer so he won’t have to give away his own soul. He had sold his soul because he was a massive shopaholic who was insatiably greedy.
Luckily, Jughead saves everyone. But one could only imagine what would happen if he won.
==Mitigating Factors==
It’s evident that he was desperate to pay off his debt, but isn’t it wrong to sacrifice others to save your own skin?
