I understand it in kids shows, they wanna make kids feel smart by making parents idiots, but in adult animation it's even worse, which i don't get. try to name a single good parent in adult animation that isn't hank hill or bob belcher,
Huh... well you get why that's the case in children's shows. But it can actually be used as a device in any sort of media. If the protagonist has difficult or abusive parents, then it can help the audience form some kind of connection with them.
