I watched Cannibal Holocaust a couple of months ago, and it was... an experience. I noticed that Alan Yates is described as the protagonist of the movie. But when I watched the movie, I saw that it mainly followed Harold Monroe's perspective the whole time, with him journeying to find the crew and discovering the footage. The footage doesn’t even start getting played until about halfway through the movie, and even then it tends to cut away so we can see Monroe's reactions and ethical quandaries. Alan and his crew really seemed more like antagonists to me, considering their lack of screen time and the fact that Monroe never would’ve had to go through all that trouble to find their footage and had to argue with those executives to get rid of it. So basically, the crew antagonizes the natives, and then posthumously antagonizes the actual POV character.
So how exactly is Alan Yates the protagonist?
