Misa and Rem. Light totally had it coming in my opinion, but I do feel a little bit sorry for him too.

Honestly, this is why I might get a lot of hate, but when I watched this series, I felt more sorry for Misa and Rem than Light, I don't feel sorrry for him, I feel he's so filled with egotism that I just simply can't feel sorry. My cousin even hates Light due to thinking he's just a spoiled brat.

You aren't gonna get hate for that. I don't feel bad in the sense "he didn't deserve to die." I feel bad since he could have lived a better life and got corrupted and seemed to realize what he did wrong in his final moments.

Light's death was kind of sympathetic because he could have been a better person if he hadn't picked up the notebook. But ultimately I'm going to have to go with Rem because she was essentially manipulated into committing suicide and she had no way out of it.

I hated Light during the whole series but his death always makes me feel some sympathy for him.

The utter loneliness he must've felt on his last moments, with no one to help him or even care for him. Misa, Takada and Mikami, all of them gone after being used as pawns, never seen as friends. Even Ryuk, the only person who knew his secrets since the beginning, abandoned him.

He could have a happy life if he never obtained the Death Note, and for that reason i think his death is incredibly tragic.

Misa and Rem also have tragic deaths, and they're even more sympathetic characters than Light.

Play I Claudius over Death Note and everything involving Caligula fits FREAKSHLY well.

Light: I always knew I was divine. But Zeus only banished his father, I killed my father, even Zeus never did that!

L: .... N-no, he never did.

L: He thinks he’s Jove!

Matsuda: Sounds bad.

L: Why do you indulge him so? Are you afraid of him?

Misa: Oh we’re all afraid, even he is. Now I have something he’s afraid of.

Misa: Zeus, Zeusy! My husband, where are you? ...Oh there you are! Ravage me, my darling. You know I can refuse you nothing. Then let’s go to bed.

Light: There’ll be no pain, I know it!

Misa: Pain? What you wanna do?!

Light: We-Are-Immortal Gods!

Misa: AHHHHHHH!

What?

Well clearly Rem is the first, because the others did things for which they deserved their destiny. Also note that she was one of the friendliest and most unique death gods besides Gelus, not an arrogant, lazy monkey like the others. She was not evil and had no bad intentions, she just protected someone she loved and Light took advantage of her.
