All was calm and quiet in the forest of Ferngully. The rainforest that night was the most beautiful it had ever been, thanks to several rainstorms and some sunshine, (and some magic!) The forest had become more lush and green than ever before. Humans had not come to the forest for decades, for thanks to Zak, he had declared Ferngully to be a closed off location, so that it could not feel the fate that some unfortunate rainforests had succumbed to.
The chieftess of the forest as well as its protector was Crysta. She was kind, gentle and she would tend to the forest's needs with the others. She was mostly wise and delicate, but sometimes she would be sassy and tough.
Despite being over 40, she was beloved by all creatures within the beautiful place, being showered in gifts by the inhabitants. She had it all.
However, all that she held dear would be taken away, for Ferngully's only and worst fear was about to rise again.
If anyone was awake at that point, and it was unlikely that anyone was, they would look to one side of the forest and see a dark figure. It wore a dark cloak so large that it completely covered the wearer, making it a perfect disguise. Their height was strange, being too small to be a human, but being too big for a fairy. It carried two things in its hands but being too dark nobody but they could see.
The figure silently walked through the trees, trying (and succeeding) to not make a sound that could wake anyone up. He saw a giant tree blocking its path so he decided to climb it. He took out two very long nails and used them to climb up the trunk he was about to reach the top when they heard a huge snort.
The figure stopped dead in its tracks, waiting to see what had caused the silence disruption. He then noticed a large window like hole and peered in it.
He saw the chieftess in her bed sleeping with her husband. The room was full of presents and gifts that the chieftess had been given.
The figure stopped and thought. Should he do this? Should he really do this to the chieftess and all the inhabitants of Ferngully?
The figure shook his head in disgust. He needed to do this.
He continued climbing up the tree until he reached the top. He then took a large leaf and jumped down, the leaf gliding him.
He then touched the ground and ran to his destination: The tree at the edge of the forest.
He saw a huge tree. There were countless leaves and a thick trunk that would be impossible to cut through.
The Figure grinned a wicked grin as he took out his Saw. He climbed to a specific spot on the tree and started to saw.
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!
The sound echoed throughout all of Ferngully as the saw cut through the bark until
CRASH!
The tree fell. Due to the amount of leaves on the branches, the tree landed softly on the ground. The Figure, his hood blown off while he worked, looked up at the place where the top side of the tree was.
In its place was a black charred skeleton.
Suddenly, the skeleton started to move; its arms separated, its head croaked, and it let out a howl.
“What? What Happened? Where-”
He turned to his uncaptor and stared.
“What on this horrid green earth are you?”
The Mogwai simply smiled and said,
“Hexxus, Spirit of Pollution, you have been invited to become the first member of the Megap Syndicate and have revenge on Crysta, Zak and all the inhabitants of FernGully. Do you Accept?”
The charred skeleton looked in confusion.
“Whos cryst-” but then he gasped.
He remembered. A little blue eyed fairy in a red dress had tried to stop him, but he had eaten her in seconds. But then sprouts and weeds started to grow from him, until…
Hexxus’ look of shock went to a look of fury…but then to a sick smile, the first one he had had in over 30 years.
“I accept,” he said, before turning to the tree the figure had climbed just a few minutes ago, “After I show someone some old…Toxic Love!”
