For those who either haven't seen or don't remember the movie Se7en, Victor was John Doe's "Sloth" victim; a drug-dealing pederast who attempted to rape a minor. He was caught and arrested for his actions, but got off with just a slap on the wrist because he had a dirty lawyer (the "Greed" victim). Therefore, John Doe took matters into his own hands by holding Victor prisoner in his own home and keeping him strapped to the bed for a whole year, cutting off his hand and malnourishing him to the point where he ate his own tongue. You can see the scene for yourself right here if you want/need to.
I don't know if I'm just some kinda psychopath or whatever, but I'm sorry, I just don't feel sorry for Victor at all; he is a grown-ass man who nearly ruined an innocent child's life for no reason other than his own sick and perverted thrills. Even the cops and doctors agree in-universe that he got what he deserved and "still has Hell to look forward to."
And just in general, if I genuinely went heart-to-heart with you guys on what I think pedophiles deserve, the things I would do if I was in John Doe's shoes and someone like Victor came along and sexually assaulted one of the handful of minors currently in my family? VW staff would certainly take my shit down for being way too graphic/descriptive about it. I hate child predators in real life, and I sure as hell have never felt sorry for one getting punished for their lechery in a work of fiction. Literally the only exception to that for me is Eduard Delacroix from The Green Mile, and that's because he actually showed remorse for his actions and spent his last days alive getting along with others instead of just blaming everyone for his own problems.
Gotta choose the bottom option. He deserves a long prison sentence, but he also needs therapy and rehabilitation, because he is addicted to drugs and suffered an abusive childhood, both of which likely screwed up his brain and shaped him into the pedophilic dealer that John Doe found. In that sense, I don’t think he was completely beyond help, had the justice system not treated his case so carelessly.
On top of that, the way in which he was killed was so objectively horrifying that I can’t help but feel bad for him, especially since if he’d gotten actual help at some point, he may not have ended up in that situation to begin with. Nobody except the absolute worst of humanity deserves a fate like that (hell, I know people who are worse than Allen)… and John Doe himself happens to be among the worst. That bullet to the brain was far too good for him.
Hopefully you and everyone else understands that I'm not on John Doe's side at all, if only because Tracy, the Gluttony and Lust victims at least were innocent. Not to mention his real-life actor, Kevin Spacey, ironically turned out to be a pederast himself...
And your points are totally fair, even if I don't quite quite agree with them (at least not yet). But, you know, I see this shit all the fucking time where exposed child predators in real life like Mini Ladd, EDP445, SSSniperWolf, James Franco, etc. use their personal sadness and mental health problems or whatever to justify themselves and try to salvage a career they can't be trusted with anymore instead of just going to get some help. People defend them for it, too! Victor is the exact same way and I'm just like "okay so what? You were trying to inflict that same sadness and mental illness on younger, more undeserving people who would've needed to waste hundreds of dollars just for therapy! If you know how bad those emotions are firsthand, then why are you trying to recreate those same tragedies? Just for fun?" Enough is enough at this point, dude.
Like I said, I have youngsters in my family, and I had to deal with one of them dying when I was a child myself. If someone violated them like Victor tried to do with that boy, I would've needed to be physically held back because otherwise I would've hurt their attacker really, really bad.
He deserved a trial. He deserved life in prison. If we have to take the death penalty into account, maybe executing him would be a valid option.
What he didn't deserve was to be killed by a fanatical serial killer operating outside the law with no sense of due process or fair trial.
I guess we can only hope that Victor spent the whole year he was in John's captivity apologizing to God, and wishing he could take back what he did to that young boy.
If not, then...well, we all know what happens to him next.
I have chosen option 2 because he was a pederast guilty of attempted rape of a boy, and at the same time, I felt the year long cruelty he suffered at the hands of John Doe was just too much. I found what happened to him to be completely disturbing and I had empathy upon seeing him and the state he was in, imagining what he had been through for a full year (and still alive). I really felt for him when the doctor said he had chewed off his own tongue. I can't not feel sorry for him given what he went through and how he looked when they found him.
The bladed strap-on would have been a much quicker and a more fitting end for him. At least it would have been over within a couple of minutes. Nobody deserves a whole year of torture. Nobody.
What do you think?
