Am I the only one who likes Tragic villains?
Am I the only one who likes Tragic villains?
No. I’m a fan of them.
Thank you.
As with everything related to villains, it depends on the quality of the writing and how heinous the character is. Some villains are better off not being tragic, while some are perfectly fine with tragedy.
Depends on how they're written
Yes..I’m I really good fan of There’s a Man in the Woods/the teacher. Ngl I feel bad for him
Sometimes it can work. Giygas, Zuko, Vader, Johan Liebert, Chrollo Lucilfer and Homelander are good examples.
Sometimes it can fall flat though and feel forced like Vecna being shoehorned a sympathetic portrayal about being brainwashed in a prequel play that completely retcons already established psychopathy in his behaviour. It also completely fails when they try with villains like Bryce Walker and Monty de La Cruz who are serial rapists but then they try to make you feel bad for them because of parental issues. Red Skull (Ultimate Marvel) is an awful example too.
Othertimes their tragedies feel just way fucked up and constant to take seriously like Miloš from A Serbian Film
I like them too (Magneto, Darth Vader, Darth Maul, MCU’s Baron Helmut Zemo and MCU’s Erik Killmonger are some of my favorites).
And yes, I consider Killmonger (MCU) to be tragic.
No you're not the only one. Darth Vader is one of my top 5 favorite villains of all time.
I also like tragic villains. I think they’re very unique.
What do you think?
