My ranking:
1. High Evolutionary (Animal Cruelty tops people cruelty any day of the week)
2. Denethor (I can't dredge up any pity for a guy who damn near kills his own son twice out of spite)
3. John Doe (After what he did to Brad Pitt's wife, f**k him, but up until that point I could sort of understand where he was coming from)
4. Commodus (I know he did some really awful stuff and deserved what he got but considering the backstory with his father, I can't help feeling sorry for him.)
(Never seen Django Unchained, not a Tarantino fan at all)
Im with tthat
If we're being objective here, Denethos is the least detestable villain on this thread. That says something. I think Commodus is the worst character here. High Evolutionary sounds like a horrible person, but at least he didn't rape his own sister. Sympathizing Commodus for being unloved by his own father would be like sympathizing Ozai. He's even worse than Ozai, given Azulon (Ozai's father) was a bad person too, and Commodus' father was hardly even a villain. I respect any opinion, but incest and family cruelty are just horrible. Even if we say that High Evolutionary is more evil, Commodus is still more repulsive.
High Evolutionary: Animal cruelty is abhorrent and he doesn't view any of his creations as their own beings but objects, who worship him. His insecurities of not being perfect is deeply petty and hold no justification for his actions.
Commodus: Asshole victim not worthy of any sympathy. He is just a petty jerk, who wants to become ruler of Rome while having a sexual attraction to his sister. I don't get why the director said he's "sympathetic" even though the plot does not present any of the abuse. His father is kind, and Commodus comes off as a jealous son.
Calvin Candy: Typical slave owner and has a detestable personality, which is his incredibly racism and demeaning to others. Hans Landa has a more likable and charismatic personality than Calvin.
John Doe: A serial killer, who killed Brad Pitt's wife just to convince Brad Pitt's character to kill him. All of his kills don't seem justifiable as he takes pleasure in his killings while having a point about something. Even though you may understand his reasons, it still does not give him the right to do what he does but also his reasons don't come as genuine.
Denethor: A terrible father, that's it. Everyone else has done worse than him but I notice that his book counterpart is a likable character.
High Evolutionary evil incarnate
