At least she cared for John the only reason why she left him to die was because he refused to go along with her and her plans

She tried to have his wife executed and threatened to reveal to the public that he cheated on his wife with her if he didn't continue to be with her. She also didn't try and clear John's name in the slightest.

Because he didn't WANT his name cleared because it was far too late to have his name cleared plus John made it clear that he was willing to accept his fate I know this because I watched the movie literally yesterday so it's pretty fresh on my mind lol

Oh, maybe I'm mistaking things then. I saw the movie like a year or two ago, so I might have some details wrong. I thought he didn't decide that he didn't want his name to be cleared until the end of the film, and maybe I'm remembering Abigail to be worse than she actually was.

He said to Abigail that he WANTED to die because and here's a quote from him "The next time we meet won't be on a boat but in hell" he said that after Abigail had found him so he clearly wanted his death or at the very least accepted it
