The 9-Bakas are known for their bumbling nature, often getting themselves into situations far beyond their understanding or capability to handle. Despite this, they possess a sense of camaraderie and loyalty to each other, making them a close-knit group of misfits. Each member brings a unique personality to the group:
- Cirno: The de facto leader, Cirno is a fairy with the power of ice. Known for her boastful nature and self-proclaimed status as the "strongest," Cirno is also infamous for her lack of intelligence, which earned her the designation of "9" (a reference to her being labeled an idiot in the Touhou manual). Despite her flaws, she is determined and never gives up, often dragging her companions into her grand (and usually doomed) schemes.
- Rumia: A youkai of darkness, Rumia is often depicted as a somewhat airheaded and carefree character. Her ability to manipulate darkness often causes her to blunder around blindly, leading to humorous and chaotic situations. Rumia's personality is laid-back, and she tends to follow Cirno’s lead out of a lack of better ideas rather than any real ambition.
- Wriggle Nightbug: A firefly youkai, Wriggle is the most grounded of the group, often acting as the voice of reason—though not by much. She possesses a greater understanding of the world around her but is still prone to misjudgment and foolish decisions. Wriggle often tries to steer the group toward less dangerous activities, though with little success.
