The Anti Metahuman Adaptive Zootomic Organism or A.M.A.Z.O for short appears as a major antagonist in the 2018 Arrowverse crossover Elseworlds. It was an android created by Ivo Laboratories on behalf of A.R.G.U.S. capable of mimicking the powers of any super-powered being it fights, including aliens.

History[]

The A.M.A.Z.O. was built by scientists at Ivo Labs under orders from A.R.G.U.S. as a unit capable of identifying meta-powers by using a nano-adaptive hybrid of the Mirakuru serum to scan a meta-human's abilities and convert it into meta data which also allows it to duplicate the powers and abilities of those that cross its path.

When Oliver Queen and Barry Allen switch lives due to John Deegan messing with reality, the android is accidentally activated by Queen while thwarting a robbery at an Ivo Labs warehouse. Later on, Killer Frost and Elongated Man respond to an alert at the laboratory and fight the A.M.A.Z.O., but the robot overpowers the two meta-humans by copying both their powers and escapes.

Super cousins and Oliver constrain A.M.A.Z.O

A.M.A.Z.O. starts rampaging through Central City to locate other metas to battle. It later uses its replication powers to scan the DNA of Superman, Supergirl, Oliver Queen as the Flash, and Barry Allen as Green Arrow enabling it to use all of their respective abilities against them. A.M.A.Z.O. is eventually defeated by the heroes once they subdue the android long enough for Barry to fire a Kryptonite arrow containing a virus created by Cisco and Caitlin which overrides its C.P.U. causing A.M.A.Z.O. to implode and break into pieces.

Doctor Deegan summons another A.M.A.Z.O. using the Book of Destiny to destroy his enemies only for it to be shut down by Brainiac 5 after the latter removes its motherboard.

Inherent Abilities[]

Before scanning any specific heroes, A.M.A.Z.O. possessed basic robotic capabilities:

High-Level Intellect: The AI was programmed to strategically adapt to situations and effectively utilize a wide array of abilities.
Superhuman Strength: Its metallic body granted it significant initial strength and durability.
Superhuman Durability: It could withstand substantial physical damage, such as crashing through buildings, without serious harm.

Replicated Powers[]

A.M.A.Z.O. copied the powers of several characters, using them in combination against the heroes:

Killer Frost (Caitlin Snow):
- Cryokinesis: Generation and manipulation of ice and cold. A.M.A.Z.O. could also simulate flight by directing ice blasts at the ground for propulsion.
Elongated Man (Ralph Dibny):
- Elasticity: The ability to stretch, deform, and expand its body.
Superman (Clark Kent) and Supergirl (Kara Danvers):
- Kryptonian Physiology: The android absorbed their solar-energy based abilities.
- Flight.
- Super Strength.
- Invulnerability.
- Heat Vision.
- Super Breath/Freeze Breath.
The Flash (Barry Allen) and Green Arrow (Oliver Queen) (in swapped bodies):
- Superhuman Speed: Could run at speeds matching other speedsters and generate Speed Force lightning.
- Intangibility/Phasing: The ability to vibrate its molecules to pass through solid matter.
- Hand-to-Hand Combat/Martial Arts Skills: The android was able to replicate the fighting skills and expertise of Green Arrow.

Trivia[]

This is the first live-action adaptation of Amazo. It is also the second TV version with the use of the acronym for its name, the first being its DCAU counterpart.
A.M.A.Z.O.'s name and manufacturer may be related to the scientist Anthony Ivo and his ship of the same name. The android also runs on the Mirakuru serum Ivo was searching for in season 2 of Arrow.
