Aaron Parkes is the main hidden antagonist of the novel The Hunter's Daughter by Nicola Solvinic. Parkes is an FBI agent and a copycat serial killer of Stephen Theron, the executed serial killer known as "The Forest Strangler". As Parkes' murders escalated, he closed in on Theron's daughter, Anna Koray.

Biography[]

Agent Parkes was assigned to tracking and arresting Theron with his partner, Agent Chandler. Chandler gained the trust of Theron' daughter, named Elena, through their German Shepard named Perceval. When Elena led the agents to Theron's cabin and hideout, where the last three women he killed were found, Parkes got into a confrontation with Theron. When Theron was nearly killing Parkes when he was vulnerable, Elena, horrified by Theron's crimes, picked up a gun and prepared to shoot Theron to stop him. She relented, dropped the gun, and ran off with Perceval's protection by the time she was rescued. Theron fled, but he was caught after two girls he recklessly tried and failed to kidnap reported his license plate. Theron died by lethal injection, which was grueling process because he wasn’t responding to the drugs and even the IV line shot out. Elena was given up by her mother Sheila for adoption, and controversial psychotherapist Dr. Barbara Richardson hypnotized Elena into believing she was Anna Smith, whose parents she was to believe died in a car accident. She was lovingly raised by the Korays and even became a deputy at the Bayern County Sheriff’s Office, where she didn’t remember she used to live.

Theron was possessed by a forest god Veles, who he made a deal with in exchange for sacrificial murders. Agent Parkes was in turn possessed by Veles, carrying on the murders but, with his status, buried his crimes and hacked the FBI database to cover it up. He's suspected to have killed dozens more women just like Theron. He also tested positive for the Lyssa Variant, a genetic mutation he shared with Theron, which either came from Veles or was how Veles could possess people better. After Anna shot a man in self-defense and had a flashback to her childhood, regaining her memories from Dr. Richardson after confronting her, Parkes decided to stalk her. He strangled two women and mutilated and decorated them just how Theron would. He himself was brought on to consult on the case, Anna being terrified he'd recognize her. She never knew it was from him, but he did sent her emails confirming the killer found her. After Dr. Richardson was murdered, Anna ent back to the cabin to confront Parkes, who she was horrified was the killer. He admitted he killed more women, hinting Veles indeed possessed him. In a climactic fight where Parkes nearly killed Anna, lighting struck him that welded him to the cabin's stove, as that was Veles' weakness. Anna grabbed a stake and stabbed Parkes' throat, causing him to bleed to death. After Anna woke up in the hospital, she was told the FBI was distancing themselves from Parkes and his crimes, but his activities were being evaluated to find his crimes yet to be identified.
