Abel McConnell was a member of the Imperial Dukes. He is an antagonist in the S.W.A.T. episode "Crusade", and the overarching antagonist of the following episode, "Next of Kin".

He was portrayed by Michael Cody Gilbert.

Biography

Abel was a member of an Imperial Dukes cell led by Jedd Barstow. The cell was ordered by the leader of the Dukes, Marc Stargher, to attack minority-owned businesses in LA to try and provoke a race war. McConnell robbed a convenience store owned by a Filipino immigrant before firebombing the store and burning it down.

McConnell learned that the LAPD had identified the cell members and fled to Julian Matthews' compound. He barricaded himself in the attic and fired one gunshot to lure officers inside, but the officers instead called SWAT to come and get him. Once they arrived McConnell began firing through the attic floor, wounding SWAT officer Victor Tan. Hondo Harrelson and Jim Street then fired through the ceiling, shooting McConnell multiple times and killing him. However, in his final moments McConnell managed to shoot and kill a Black officer named Erika Rogers, which had a profound effect on the other members of 20-Squad.

Trivia

• Abel is actually never shown alive on-screen, as the entire shootout happened with Abel off-screen and the only showings of him was his criminal ID and his corpse.
