Abernathy is a supporting character in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Vinda Rosier) of The Crimes of Grindelwald.
He was portrayed by Kevin Guthrie.
History[]
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them[]
In the first film, Abernathy works as a supervisor for the American ministry of magic (MACUSA). He is first seen berating Tina for interrupting a meeting and he politely greets Percival Graves, who is actually Gellert Grindelwald in disguise.
The Crimes of Grindelwald[]
In the second film, Abernathy turns out to be a follower of Grindelwald, and he takes on his appearance during his transfer out of prison to help him escape. After getting rid of the men from the jail wagon, Grindelwald restores Abernathy's tongue (which the MACUSA had removed while in his Grindelwald disguise) and the two fly off to Europe. A few months later, Abernathy and the army of Grindelwald listen to their leader explain the importance of finding Credence Barebone, who could kill Albus Dumbledore.
Towards the end of the film, Abernathy is seen breaking through Grindelwald's circle testing the loyalty of his followers at the Lestrange Mausoleum.
