Biography[]

The Legend of the Devourer of Worlds[]

Long ago, the Arboreans, an ancient race of sentient treefolk, lived in harmony under the guidance of their elder, Old Nym. On quiet nights, Old Nym would tell stories to younglings nestled in their leafy beds. One such tale spoke of a time of great darkness, the era known as The Great Hunger. According to legend, a being of unimaginable appetite roamed the world. “He was taller than the highest mountains, older than the deepest roots,” Old Nym whispered to the wide-eyed little ones. “His hunger was insatiable, and he devoured all—trees, stars, even the sun itself.” The Arboreans, fearing the end of their world, wove a powerful seal, binding the monster in an eternal slumber deep beneath the earth.

But as the years passed, whispers of the Ancient Hunger’s return began to stir. The bonds holding him weakened, and Abominor, the Devourer, began to rise once more, threatening to consume everything once again.

Sylvara's Tellings[]

But Abominor's story does not begin with the Arboreans alone. It stretches back to the dawn of time, to the creation of the world itself. As the Primordials shaped existence, lesser beings emerged—incarnations, avatars, gods. Among them was Sylvara, a green dragon who embodies nature and growth, and Abominor, the force of consumption. Together, they maintained balance in nature, ensuring the cycle of life and decay remained unbroken.

Yet over time, Abominor succumbed to his primal urges. The thrill of devouring overwhelmed his purpose, turning him into something far more dangerous. He grew larger and more ravenous, his hunger consuming even his own sanity. His soul became a furnace of endless hunger, and his blood turned to venom. Sylvara, unable to stop him alone, sought aid from the Arboreans, her children in spirit. Their shamans, drawing upon the raw power of nature, channeled their magic through her. Together, they cast the Great Seal, imprisoning Abominor in eternal slumber.

The Ancient Hunger Mini Campaign[]

For centuries, the Ancient Arboreans fought fiercely to imprison him, recognizing the catastrophic danger he posed. They managed to lock him away in a timeless sleep, ensuring his hunger would never threaten the world again.

But now, the Croks, a fanatical reptilian race, seek to shatter the Seal. Believing it is their sacred duty to feed their master, they work tirelessly to awaken him. Sylvara, sensing the weakening Seal, knows that Abominor’s return could spell the end of all life. With time running out, she calls upon allies across the land to stand against the Croks. Every creature that values balance, every force that cherishes life, must unite. The battle to stop the awakening of the Ancient Hunger has begun.

Abilities and Powers[]

In the introduction scene and throughout the stage, Abominor will periodically break free from his restraints and randomly destroy a tower, reducing it to rubble. Players must spend gold to rebuild it, making it essential to keep a reserve of 220 gold (the tower restoration cost), especially if high-level towers are in play. Early on, it's wise to construct one or two well-upgraded towers in prime locations while placing lower-level towers in less strategic spots to minimize the risk of losing key defenses when funds are scarce.

Before the boss fight begins, reposition heroes near the right exit or close to the left tunnel to prevent them from being instantly eliminated when Abominor enters the battlefield.

Battling Abominor presents a significant challenge, as he not only consumes towers and units but also spawns numerous Crokinders after doing so. Fully upgraded Tricannons’ bombardment and Eldritch Channelers’ Overflow abilities are highly effective against these reinforcements. Additionally, Abominor evolves into a larger, stronger, but slower form each time he loses a portion of his health, restoring a notable amount of HP (1700/2200/1700/4000) at each phase transition.

Abominor evolves three times during the battle:

  • Second form: become bigger and heals himself
  • Third forms: Becomes Abominor Venomus and gains the ability to throw poison.
  • Final form: Becomes Abominor Ignis. He can now throws fire, becomes unblockable, and is accompanied by waves of Lizardshots, Quickfeet, and Killertides to defend him.

It is highly recommended to stall Abominor for as long as possible early in the fight, at least until he reaches his third or final form, as his initial phases feature faster movement speed.

Once his final form is defeated, Abominor lets out one last agonized roar before shrinking back to his original size, ultimately being restrained by the Arboreans' root magic. In the epilogue, Sylvara transforms him into a giant leather purse.

Minions[]

The Croks in the Ancient Hunger mini-campaign are a fanatical race of reptilian beings who inhabit the swamps. They serve as the primary antagonists, worshiping Abominor as their god and striving to awaken him from his ancient slumber. Their ultimate goal is to feed their "master" and unleash his insatiable hunger upon the world. Their types include:

  • Gator
  • Crokinder
  • Lizardshot
  • Winged Crok
  • Killertile
  • Quickfeet
  • Nesting Gator
