People believed Absalom's claims, becoming supporters of his in the process. Using this following, he staged a revolt at Hebron, forcing David and his council to flee. Absalom would later rape his father's concubines.
While he was fleeing from his father's army, his hair got stuck in a tree, and despite David's orders not to kill him, he was murdered by Joab. His father mourned his death.
