Bright: Just... what ARE you, anyway?!
Absolution: Why, I am everything that you could ever dream of. I've made all of your wishes come true, haven't I? I am... Absolution. A being of complete singularity. Together, you and I will bring all of Soma together into a single place. Where we will shape our world of pure singlarity. A world of pure NOTHING! And YOU?! If you don't want anyone else shaping their world... then I guess you're stuck with me, aren't you?
~ Absolution to Bright.
Why hesitate?! I can give you EVERYTHING YOU EVER WANTED! But if you truly DON'T desire the happiness you so lust for... THEN I WILL KILL YOU WHERE YOU STAND!
~ Absolution before its final boss fight.

Absolution is the main antagonist of the Soma Spirits series, serving as the overarching antagonist of Soma Spirits and main antagonist of Soma Union. They are a being which seeks to end Soma and a source of great power which every main antagonist seeks to fulfill their own wishes (except for Professor M).

Biography[]

Past[]

Before the game's events[]

Absolution was an ancient evil that terrorized Soma for ages throughout the history and was rumored to be able to bring the end of ages. One day, it was found by Mason who tried to use its powers to his needs, but eventually realized that Absolution was malevolent and sought to bring death to all Soma. To prevent it from succeeding in its goals and for its powers to fall into wrong hands, Mason sealed it away in the underground shrine, locking it away so that no one could ever find and unleash it onto the world.

However, one day, a young Bright got lost in the forest while looking for his friends, Rozen and Silvio, and managed to find his way into the underground shrine where Absolution was sealed and laid dormant in its mask form. Upon being awakened, Absolution introduced itself to Bright and proceeded to coerce him into using it by using his wishes to not lose anyone ever again, and telling him that it can make him a king.

For at least a week, Bright kept the Absolution with him, never telling anyone about its existence per its orders. One day, he was pulled into another expedition into the forest, this time to go to a mysterious old mansion. Absolution gives Bright the power to direct him and his friends throughout the forest without getting lost so they can roam it without fear of losing each other. Upon getting to the mansion, revealed to be an abandoned castle, the three friends encounter a door with a magic barrier. Absolution then convinces Bright to use its powers to break the barrier and open the door. Exploring the castle, the friends encounter bubbles containing diary entries and keys, which are also opened using Absolution's powers. Once all the keys are collected and used to get to a room with a big key, the friends then return to where they entered and get to another big door with a magic barrier. The barrier is stronger than the one on the entrance, which needs Bright to push Absolution's power to open, which leads the boy to get into a state of rage and determination. Upon opening the door, the three friends enter a courtyard containing a temple. Upon entering the temple, Bright is disappointed by the lack of discovery. That's when Absolution comes in and offers to make the boy a king, using the empty castle as a foundation for the new kingdom they'll build, which Bright accepts, creating the Sun King's Citadel. However, unbeknownst to them all, Bright's powers awakened two inhabitants of the castle.

For ten years, the kingdom built by Bright and his friends prospered, with everyone living in the era of peace, though Bright soon noticed that the kingdom's inhabitants, his own friends Rozen and Silvio included, were not as happy with their lives as he expected them to be, though Absolution tried to convince Bright to not concern himself with such trivialities. However, an encounter with Form and Dissonance in the abandoned temple led to a new conflict, where the two beings sought the secret of Sun King's power, trying to coerce him into building a world of their design. The two beings are sent away by force, but leads to Bright getting into another state of anger. Absolution almost ends up getting the boy to kill his friends before he is snapped out of it. That's when Absolution reveals its true malevolent nature and tells Bright its ultimate goal to "create a world of pure singularity, of pure nothing". After Bright takes a break and leaves the castle for a while to talk to Elder Oakley, Form and Dissonance used the opportunity to start a large-scale war in the Sun King's kingdom to claim Absolution's power for themselves. This led to a fight on the top of the Sun King's Citadel, where, after the great battle which costed Rozen and Silvio their lives, Bright fractures Absolution into four Orbs, and scatters it across the entire Soma so that no one could have it and prevent the malevolent being from destroying the world, using its powers to revive Rozen and Silvio as Heart and Soul respectively, and eventually causing a fight so great it split Soma in two halves, a World of Joy and a World of Sorrow.

Soma Sprits[]

However, with Absolution fractured, its malevolent power spread itself across entire Soma, in both Worlds of Joy and Sorrow, corrupting 6 potent inhabitants' emotions, breaking the balance between two worlds. This discovery led to Form and Dissonance trying to claim its powers once more after the long years, each trying to use it to create their idealized world and destroy the undesirable opposing world, and they urge Heart and Soul to collect Orbs of Joy and Sorrow, which in truth held Absolution's power within themselves. However, in the canon ending, Heart and Soul ended up collecting equal amount of the Orbs of Joy and Sorrow, leading to Soma beginning to merge into one, thus permanently foiling their plans to create a world where only their respective emotions exist. In rage, they attempt to destroy all of Soma, using Orbs of Joy and Sorrow to turn themselves into an incomplete Absolution form, but they fail and get vanquished by Heart and Soul who would then go on to maintain peace on united Soma for years to come.

Between the games[]

Despite Heart and Soul's victory, Absolution's power still persisted, so Mason, now dubbing himself Professor M, created replicas of spirits to contain and nullify Absolution's power. Though the first three prototypes ended up proving themselves to be a failure, Project Zeta managed to withstand and contain the full power of Absolution within his own body. Yet, despite this, Absolution's power ended up corrupting Zeta into a being of malice, so Professor M decided to seal Zeta away and create the new spirit replica that would not succumb to corruption, eventually leading to the creation of Project Omega, a.k.a. Zero. Zeta himself did not take well to being sealed away and decided to claim his revenge on Professor M for abandoning him by destroying Soma and creating a new world in its place, a world where he would guide spirits without letting them be burdened by their original purposes. He then manages to break Absolution free from its chamber and proceeds to use it in an attempt to destroy all of Soma. However, before he could complete his goal, Bright took control of Project Omega/Zero and stopped Zeta, breaking Absolution apart into four Orbs once more, and thus, instead of being destroyed, Soma was merely fractured into multiple chunks floating in space.

Soma Union[]

Not content with his defeat, Zeta intended to finish what he started and find all four pieces of Absolution, having managed to claim one piece for himself. Under the persona of Captain Guidance, he then sends the remaining citizens on the Starship Virtue and goes on a 20 year trip to collect the pieces of Absolution under the guise of a quest to find a way to put Soma back together.

After a long time, the pieces of Absolution, taking forms of Orbs of Destiny or Freedom, are collected with little time gaps in between. Afterwards, Captain Guidance proceeds to reclaim Absolution's power and abandons everyone to go back to destroying Soma. Zero, Reca and Lumen travelled to the Corrupted Citadel, Absolution's base of operations, and confront the captain on the rooftop. Captain Guidance fails in thwarting the trio, and is mortally wounded by Absolution as a result. Absolution then offers its power to Zero, promising to help him put Soma back together, before it left to wait for their response at the end of the Citadel. The trio then confronts Absolution and initiate a battle with the creature, with Absolution ultimately taking its true form as Bright empowered the trio. Absolution is then beaten, but whether it is completely destroyed is dependant on whether the heroes choose to restore Soma, thus allowing the Absolution to inevitably return, or destroy Absolution, thus permanently putting an end to their plans to restore Soma.

Appearance[]

Mask[]

In its mask form, Absolution resembles a purple mask with eyes and a open, smiling mouth. It is able to change it's mask color, as seen when it turns yellow to appeal to Bright.

Base form[]

It has sharp teeth, and eyes in a lot of places on their body, including their hands which have claws. It also has horns, pointing up and pointing in the forward direction. It also has tentacles of sorts, with eyes also on them.

True form[]

Its true appearance is angel-like. It has its face as the Mask, but it's cyan. It has a halo-like ring above its face, and it has wings. At the end of these wings, there are more faces, similar to the mask. These faces range from anger, excitement to sadness.
