Abyssal Dision is the main antagonist of Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere. He is an AI copy of the original Dision, a General Resource pilot killed in a cover-up by the organization alongside his lover Yoko Martha Inoue. Simon Orestes Cohen, blaming Dision for Yoko's death, sought to destroy Dision's copy by sending Nemo after it, while the new Dision himself became the leader of a terrorist group Ouroboros that sought to free humanity of their organic bodies, which it perceived as an unneeded burden.
He was voiced by Masashi Ebara.
Biography[]
Past[]
Abyssal Dision was born in Usea in 1997. In 2018, he graduated from Sandbury GR Defense Academy with a degree in aerospace engineering, and joined GRDF as a pilot later that year. Shortly before his death, he met up with Rena Hirose and convinced her to become a test subject for the Darkness of Enigma project, which required her to become a pilot for the X-49 Night Raven and caused the girl to become obsessed with the plane.
He eventually became the boyfriend of Yoko Martha Inoue, a General Resource scientist studying the process of "sublimation", copying human mind and transferring it into a digital form. In 2030, she successfully copied her lover's mind. Tragically, the resulting "deadcopy" of Dision couldn't recognize his former self nor was able to save Martha from the bombs planted by General Resource operatives to cover up her experiments, killing both her and the original Dision. Abyssal's deadcopy lived on inside the Electrosphere, plotting to avenge Martha.
Dision took part in instigating the conflict between General Resource and Neucom by triggering the Payton Dispute. He also made an ally in form of a UPEO member, Gilbert Park, to help him stir up the future conflict.
Electrosphere[]
In every story route, Dision's deadcopy originally masquarades as the original one, still flying for GRDF and will try to tempt Nemo to join first General Resource, then his revolution at certain points in the story. He eventually reveals himself as the leader of Ouroboros, claiming that his goal is to "liberate" humans from their bodies to become truly free like he is. Depending on the story route taken, he may reveal that he actually hates his current condition and his only goal was to avenge Martha's death, no matter how much death and destruction that brings. No matter what choices Nemo makes, they will end up playing a role in killing Dision and foiling his plans for revolution.
Since the events of the entire game were revealed to be a simulation by Cohen, it's unknown what actually happens to Dision, but Cohen, confident that he is doomed either way, released the memory-wiped Nemo into the real world to dispose of him.
Non-canon appearances[]
Dision appears in Ace Combat: Joint Assault, in the special mission "Ace of Aces", as the eighth enemy ace the player has to defeat. In said mission, he flies an F-15S/MTD.
