The Acolytes are a group of mutants that followed Magneto's ideals and believed in a society where humans are dominated by mutants and worshipped him as a savior.

Story[]

The Acolytes were formed by Fabian Cortez as he was dedicated to Magneto's dream of a world ruled by mutants and their base of operations was Asteroid M. However, Cortez later betrayed Magneto and vied with him for control of the group. First, he sabotaged their base and caused Asteroid M to plummet to Earth causing its destruction and killing several Acolyte members but Magneto survived. Angered of Cortez's betrayal, Magneto recruited the mutant Exodus to help him reclaim the Acolytes and appointed him as the new leader.

Magneto often sent the Acolytes to do his dirty work. The X-Man Colossus joined the team for a while when his home country was struck with the Legacy Virus. However, Colossus could not accept their ruthless methods and grew disillusioned with the Acolytes fanaticism. Finding himself at odds with the other Acolytes, Colossus abandoned them.

When the Scarlet Witch used her reality-altering powers against mutantkind, most of the Acolytes lost their powers.
