Acomat is the secondary antagonist of the Doctor Who story "Marco Polo".
He was portrayed by the late Philip Voss.
Biography
Acomat was the leader of a group of Mongol bandits sent by the warlord Noghai to assist Tegana in his plot to assassinate Kublai Khan. He and his men met with Tegana at the Cave of Five Hundred Eyes where Tegana told them about the TARDIS, which he planned to steal for Noghai. They saw that Barbara had followed Tegana there, so Acomat had his men capture her. He left her behind to be killed by his guards but she was rescued by her friends.
Acomat again met with Tegana who outlined his plan: He would kill the guard at Marco Polo's camp during the night, then signal Acomat's men to attack and kill everyone in their sleep. Acomat would then return to Noghai with the TARDIS while Tegana would carry on to Peking alone and assassinate the Khan.
The plan went wrong when the Doctor and his friends discovered the dead guard and alerted Polo, causing the camp to ready themselves for an attack. Acomat and his men were left to wait in frustration as Tegana failed to give the signal to attack. Eventually, Acomat suspected Tegana had fallen asleep and decided to attack anyway, and also to do it anyway. As they stormed the camp, they found Tegana waiting with the Doctor, Ian and Polo as part of the defence and Acomat mockingly observed Tegana was awake, calling him by name. To stop Acomat blowing his cover further, Tegana killed him.
