The Acrobatic Silky is a minor antagonist in the manga and anime series Dandadan, serving as the titular main antagonist of the Acrobatic Silky arc.

She was formerly a human whose daughter was kidnapped by criminals, leading to her taking her own life. As a spirit, an encounter with a young Aira Shiratori led to her becoming delusion, believing herself to be Aira's deceased mother and leading her to become the yokai that she is in the present.

She was voiced in Japanese by Kikuko Inoue and Amber Lee Connors in the English dub.

History[]

Background[]

During her life as a human, the Acrobatic Silky was a single mother who struggled to provide for her daughter, eventually turning to prostitution in order to make ends meet. Although she and her daughter were very poor, they had a very warm relationship with each other. One day, human traffickers stormed into her apartment and kidnapped her daughter. She tried in vain to save her, causing her to undergo a mental breakdown and commit suicide in despair.

Due to dying while filled with regret, she was unable to pass onto the afterlife, eventually becoming a yokai known as the Acrobatic Silky. One day, a young girl known as Aira Shiratori had a chance encounter with her in which she mistook the yokai for her own deceased mother. In the Acrobatic Silky's grief for her daughter, she deluded herself into believing that she was actually Aira's mother, and took it upon herself to watch over Aira from a distance, although Aira couldn't see her due to lacking spiritual powers.

Acrobatic Silky arc[]

When Momo Ayase and Ken Takakura fight Turbo Granny, Ken's testicles go missing once Turbo Granny forces herself into his body. Aira Shiratori, who happened to be passing by, picks up one of his testicles, granting her the ability to see spirits. The Acrobatic Silky, upon realizing that Aira can see her, confronts her while the latter is interrogating Momo under the mistaken belief that she's a devil. In a fit of madness, the Acrobatic Silky attempts to kill Aira after being convinced that she's become a "bad girl." Wanting to save Aira, Momo and Ken battle the yokai, but Aira is accidentally killed in the process.

Shocked by what she's done, the Acrobatic Silky momentarily regains some lucidity and chooses to send her aura into Aira, effectively sacrificing her life so that Aira could live. However because the Acrobatic Silky is dying with remorse for not being a better mother, her soul is unable to move on to the afterlife and begins to fade into nothingness. Before that can happen, Aira is overcome with sympathy for the yokai and pretends to be her daughter, hugging her and telling her that she loves her. Aira's compassion ends up saving the Acrobatic Silky's soul, and she's able to reunite with her daughter in the afterlife.

Powers and abilities[]

  • Agility: The Acrobatic Silky possesses an extreme amount of agility, being able to outspeed even Ken during their battle. This agility carries over to Aira after she receives the yokai's aura.
  • Hair manipulation: The Acrobatic Silky is able to manipulate her hair as a weapon, being able to grow it to long lengths and shape it to create weapons such as tendrils and whips . Like her agility, this ability carries over to Aira who is able to greatly enhance its powers by creating drills.
