Adam (surname unknown) is the secondary antagonist of the giallo film The Case of the Bloody Iris. Adam is the leader of his sex cult, Iris, and stalker of one of his former captive "wives" Jennifer, who moves into an apartment complex for sanctuary, but instead encounters more danger. Adam continues to harass Jennifer and try to destroy her life, but he pays his own price.
He was portrayed by Ben Carrá.
History[]
Adam ran his sex cult in Italy, with a model named Jennifer being a significant survivor. Adam obsessed over her, forged a marriage with her, and sexually exploited and degraded her while he pimped her and the rest of the group out to each other ceremoniously. Jennifer was always ashamed, but Adam glorified her being treated as a possession to overcompensate himself. Jennifer eventually escaped, but Adam still decided Jennifer "belonged to" him and followed her to snatch her back into his web of influence. One of her colleagues at the agency where she worked, Andrea Antinori, offered her residence at his ostentatious apartment complex where he oversaw management, along with fellow model Marilyn Ricci. They gleefully accepted, but Adam would still stalk Jennifer, leaving blossoming irises on the ground where she would go to find, then appear suddenly to accost her and demand her return, threatening her life every time she refused.
The stay in the apartment complex took a turn for the worse, as women in and associated with the building were being viciously murdered. In addition, David Moss, the deformed, masked son of an aged tenant who kept him isolated in her apartment, would creep out and stalk Jennifer just to break into her apartment and grope her. Jennifer came back with Marilyn, who became recognized for her dry humor and shopaholic free spirits by then, and Sheila Isaacs, a closeted lesbian tenant who lived with her professor father and made a pass at Jennifer earlier, to find a blood-soaked iris on the floor of Jennifer's and Marilyn's apartment. Jennifer feared Adam was present, but she never saw blood at the scenes where he stalked her. Following the trail to a cabinet, Jennifer opened, and all three women screamed when Adam slid out dead and covered in his own blood, a switchblade still stuck in his liver. The police commissioner made Jennifer stay in the apartment complex as bait, which revealed Professor Isaacs as the killer, disposing of Adam as an obstacle to his true motive. He targeted the young, beautiful women Sheila was attracted to and who were otherwise in the apartment complex, including Marilyn shortly after, but in trying to kill Jennifer, he murdered Sheila by accident, then David Moss to frame him in a cover-up. As the professor was just about to kill Jennifer, Andrea, long the prime suspect, appeared and fought Isaacs until Andrea killed him, saving both his and Jennifer's lives.
