Nusbaum: Enjoy the lady, boys. Kill them.
Desmond: You got what you wanted, the company is yours. Now let us walk, okay? We hereby tender our resignations. I think I speak for all of us when I say we really don't want to work for you anymore.
Nusbaum: Oh, everyone's going to be working for me, Desmond.
Desmond: What?
Nusbaum: Do you really think this p--s-ant little bullet factory is my endgame. No, I've got my sights set on much, much bigger things.
Desmond: So what? You're gonna become like regional manager of the world.
Nusbaum: You know, I like the sound of that. Excellent, deliver their heads to me.

Adam Nusbaum is the main antagonist of the 2018 Australian horror-comedy film Office Uprising.

He is the regional head of accounting at Ammotech and the former boss turned arch-enemy of the protagonist Desmond Brimble who drinks the Zolt energy drink like the rest of the staff but unlike them, he seems to be willing to harm others for his own benefit.

He was portrayed by Zachary Levi, who also played Luke Collins in Heroes Reborn.

Office Uprising[]

He first appears talking with his assistant before heading into his office and calling the protagonist Desmond Brimble into his office, which the call is through the company phone.

In his office, he reminds Desmond that he's late but admits that he doesn't care and decides to let him know about the merger with Altria, who make the VX gas, weaponized anthrax, and the all-terrain jet ski.

However, he also reminds him of R and D banging down his door about the Clayton Report, which Desmond has been assigned to work on and it's due the next day.

After a bit of advice to Desmond about his work performance and reminder that not all of them are going to be there by the end of the week, he sends Desmond out of his office and back to work.

While in his office, he would later call Lentworth in to fire him for the merger and Desmond later intimidated his voice to make a joke about how his door's sign technically says "A--sbaum," much to Mourad's annoyance.

After that happened, he then calls for everyone to report to the 4 P.M. Motivational Seminar, where the company's CEO Franklin Gantt is introducing the energy drink Zolt to his employees. Desmond ends up leaving to finish the report at home, however, thus being saved from ingesting the deadly drink.

The next day, Desmond quickly goes to work to fix the report but finds the gate guard Clarence gone and one of the researchers quickly leaving the place in fear, which he didn't even think much of and still went in there while handing his phone to Tony but still unaware that the guy is already dead and he handed away the only thing to help him call the police.

When Desmond is about to fix the report on his desk, he gets an angry call from Nusbaum to come into his office. Desmond thinks of nothing of this and prints the report, despite it having 1,940 spelling errors.

In the office, Nusbaum has drank the Zolt drink and showing some weird signs of his current behavior via sniffing his pencil every time he sharpens it and comparing dirt from Africa, which Desmond was understandably getting creeped out from.

However, he finally notices something wrong when finding the supervisor Jerry Soloman dead on the floor due to Nusbaum stabbing him in the back with several pencils for a seemingly lack of impulse control and atrocious spelling.

Realizing what might happen, Desmond tried to prevent him from seeing the Clayton Report but Nusbaum still sees it and angrily scolds him for even getting his name wrong, which was most likely the name that Desmond gives him.

After being done reading it, Nusbaum then grabs Desmond and claims that they are going to have to "let him go" before throwing him through the door and sadistically telling him to not be too sad because they have a "killer severance package," pretty much ordering the other zombified accounting department to kill Desmond but he manages to escape and they just choose to go elsewhere to attack anyone else.

Later on, he and the rest of his mob end up running into the advertising department and start negotiations with them about making the mob bigger but the department's head Bob rejects the offer due to dislike for accounting and bragging about what they've done before he throws his empty Zolt can towards Nusbaum, who uses his newfound strength to make it into a shuriken and just kills Bob via decapitating him with it.

After doing so, he has the Agent Orange Soda twins killed because he hates their campaign and welcomes the others into his group, which he offered them the deal of killing the twins in exchange of joining him.

However, any plans of him and the mob leaving the building for more victims got put on hold due to Desmond accidentally activating the safety seal due to trying to break the glass to no avail, which is because he skimmed the training manual.

Later on, Desmond would impersonate Nusbaum's voice again to save Lentworth from the HR department until he ruins the plan with his real voice on accident but Samantha turns the ladies there against Lisa via revealing her dark secrets.

After the protagonists finally get to the CEO's office, Nusbaum and the mob return to demand him to remove the safety seal around the building for an "aggressive expansion," which Gantt refuses and chooses to insult him.

However, Nusbaum still makes it into the office due to the walls being made out of wood and having his mob uses hatchets to break through it, killing Lentworth (who was secretly zombified the whole time) and 2 of Gantt's associates along the way.

After a short battle, Nusbaum cuts Gantt's hand off with the hatchet and at the end of a short argument with him, he quickly kills his now former boss with a shotgun blast to the head.

However, Desmond tries to reason with Nusbaum by offering to resign from the company but Nusbaum plans to have everyone work for him and admits to planning on being regional manager of the world, showing his newfound evil nature.

After leaving the protagonists to the rest of the mob, he finally manages to remove the safety seal and sarcastically thanks his late boss before moving in to give a speech to his mob about going into stage 3 of their plan for their hostile takeover and takes time to flex his neck again for good measure, showing signs of the drink damaging his sanity.

Upon Desmond and Mourad being informed by Nicholas Fraum of a cure for Samantha but finding out that Nusbaum and the mob are beyond saving, they decide to fight their way in by using weapons they steal from the exhibits but still end up watching in horror as Nusbaum has their friend Ralph killed for accidentally dropping some equipment.

However, Nusbaum manages to spot them through the security cameras but after the failed attempts to use land mines and a flamethrower, Desmond and Mourad start to successfully take down the zombies with guns.

Despite their best efforts, Nusbaum ends up unlocking the AT 1000 Endoskeleton suit and uses it to not only destroy the rest of the cure but to also try and kill the 2 guys, mostly Brimble for being unable to "fit in with Ammotech culture" and proves to be a bigger threat to him right now.

During the fight, Desmond starts triggering Nusbaum with comments of having done offenses in the past since the day he started but as he goes to shoot him, he is unable to do so and Nusbaum mocks him for it by claiming that he didn't read the instructions only for Desmond jumping from the attempted gunfire causes his rifle to charge and he's now able to shoot the other zombies.

As a mob member has Desmond pinned to the wall, Nusbaum is about kill Desmond but ends up running out of power only to find an injured Marcus Gantt on the ground and to sever his arm to use for fuel, leaving the now whimpering jerk to bleed out.

However, Desmond gets saved when a cured Sam incapacitates Nusbaum with a grenade launcher and giving them time to run away.

In the entrance lobby, they start planning explosives to try and kill Nusbaum but fail to do so due to Desmond not putting detonators in them only to then remember he has one last landmine left and manages to throw it near Nusbaum, who fortunately steps on it.

By the time the protagonists escape the building, the landmine detonates and blows up all of Ammotech, not only killing Nusbaum and ending his short-lived reign of terror for good but also destroying the remaining Zolt drinks and zombies along with ending the short outbreak once and for all.

Personality[]

Before drinking the Zolt drink, Nusbaum was just a stern boss who was only harsh on Desmond for his poor work performance and even trying to get him to take his job seriously, even talking nicely to his assistant.

After drinking the Zolt drink, he turns him into a sadistic, deranged, rageful, and controlling tyrant obsessed with making everyone work for him and usually death threats to make them work for him via killing those who he sees as the weaklink.

Even worse, the drink might've just exposed his true nature as an abusive and bitter control freak who hates his job and wants to be regional manager of the world, even being willing to kill his own boss and possibly destroy the company to do so.

Despite this, he does have some comedic moments of sniffing pencil shavings like their cocaine after sharpening them so many times and even winking at Desmond when planning to read the Clayton Report.

Appearance[]

He is a Caucasian male with black hair, goatee, and glasses.

In his first appearance, he wears a black suit with a white shirt and black tie.

After drinking the Zolt drink, he discards his jacket and just now wears a grey vest and silver watch while having the same veins as the other victims but his gets worse every time he goes into insanity.

Trivia[]

  • Despite being a Zolt zombie, he mentions that he takes green juice and this could make him health nut that wouldn't be allowed to drink energy drinks unless he drank the drink for work reasons instead of being obsessed with it.
  • Also despite being a horror villain, his use of the endoskeleton makes him resemble a supervillain instead, complete with the weaponry and evil monologues.
