But within him grew the first vice - envy. He looked to the skies and wished them to be his. Even while we built this city, the first and greatest city of man, he longed for more. His reach extended to creation itself, and he was the first to push past the order of the cosmos and take something from another world.

Adam el Asem is a major antagonist in the SCP Foundation series. He is the very first human being to have ever existed and he was created near the beginning of creation and founded the city Audapaupadopolis, which became the home of early humanity and various gods. He became the first and most powerful ruler of humanity, but became mad with power and after being betrayed he was eventually defeated and imprisoned.
Adam is based on the character of the same name and primarily appears in the "Project PARAGON" series.
Biography[]
Origin[]
Adam was created near the creation of the world by the gods Mekhane and Yaldabaoth out of the Earth of the goddess Gaia as a mean to protect her. Adam would be granted the gift of fire by a flaming god, possibly Pangloss. After Adam traveled across the world and encountering many wonders and strange beings, he found Eden and built the city of Audapaupadopolis upon its hills.
At Eden, Adam met a woman named Lilith and married her, first siring Cain and Able with her, then many more sons and daughters who would occupy the city of Audapaupadopolis. These children became known as the Children of the Sun, possessing muted versions of the abilities their parents had.
When Lilith left to explore the weird places of the world, Adam became lonely and created Eve from his left rib. She became his second wife, and he sired a child named Seth with her. With Seth's birth, the Garden of Eden was also created out of Eve's dream, while Adam created the Gate Guardian to protect the newly created sanctuary. However, complications from childbirth weakened Eve and eventually caused her death. This sent Adam into a depression, deeply saddened by the loss, but he still cared for and deeply loved his sons, especially Seth. Adam sent his children to the mothers of the world, the wolf, the bear, the sow, and the lion, who could raise them while he focused on managing his city and people.
Fall of Adam[]
One night, a young Seth asked his father if he could have his own star. Adam granted his wish, pulling an iron crown from another universe with his vast power. This crown corrupted Adam, becoming overwhelmed with envy and greed. He declared himself to be the King of All That Is, becoming extremely tyrannical and cruel. When Mekhane attempted to usurp his place, Adam enraged shattered his creator, possibly through the use of the Spear of the Non-Believer. This crown also corrupted his family, with the two brothers Cain and Able raising armies to battle one another in order to claim the crown.
During a battle on Eden's hills, Able offered peace to his brother Cain, only for Cain to kill his own brother with a stone. In sorrow and regret, Cain brought Able's body before Audapaupadopolis' gate and called for his father. Adam, in a fit of rage, ripped off Cain's arms and fed them to the wolves for using them to kill his own brother, cursing him with perfect memory and cursing the land he would walk, before casting him away.
When Adam brought Able to life, he saw that hatred filled Able's soul and out of pity, locked him in a stone crypt so that he may hate forever alone. In order to end the constant bloodshed between the people of Audapaupadopolis, his favorite son Seth stole the crown atop Adam's head while he slept, fleeing with thousands of his own kin. Enraged, Adam destroyed the world around him, as he pursued his son and his descendants across the world until he eventually relented.
After a hundred years, a broken Adam returned to Audapaupadopolis. However, the Faeries and the Children of the Night eventually came for Adam, believing that his taking of the crown was a betrayal of the Fae and their goddess Titania. Though he fought them and retreated within the Garden of Eden, Adam was defeated and captured by his enemies who took him to be contained within Titania's Prison, which later become known as SCP-2932. Following this, Adam somehow managed to escape later on. During the antediluvian period, Adam would become a known divine figure, even being worshipped by some groups like the E-Rikeshans.
Rediscovery[]
During the modern era, the Insurgency Reborn leader Adam Ivanov, who was originally part of the Chaos Insurgency's assassination team that current O5-1 Calvin Lucien was the leader of, found out the location of Adam and formed a plan involving him and other related anomalies. In light of this, O5-1 went to Seth, now designated SCP-4840-A, and proposed to reunite him with his other two brothers to help with his father that is locked within Level Seven of SCP-3790, a structure located beneath the abandoned Port Superior Canning Company warehouse in London, the United Kingdom previously belonging to the Department of Abnormalities; 4840-A accepted this task.
Appearance[]
Adam el Asem never directly appears, only getting a very simplified description of him based on the murals found on SCP-4840. He is depicted as a golden man, possessing the Spear of the Non-Believer and the Crown of Apollyon on his head. Sometimes, he is represented riding a white horse.
Personality[]
Adam el Asem was described by Seth as a sunny and pleasant person, capable of transmitting positive energy to the people around him, but became very quiet and depressed after his second wife Eve died. Adam had shown empathy and compassion towards his family, even after being corrupted, as shown when he brought back to life his second son, Able, who had betrayed him. As a king, Adam initially cared deeply about the citizens of Audapaupadopolis and created a very inclusive society, as he welcomed a variety of people and otherworldly entities into his domain.
Despite his good traits, once Adam claimed Apollyon's Crown and fell to greed and envy, Adam showed himself to be a ruthless, wrathful, violent, and impulsive man capable of great cruelty and atrocities. After taking the crown, Adam became tyrannical and paranoid. However, despite his flaws, Adam still believed that betrayal of one's kin is the worst sin to commit; this is exemplified by the extremely harsh punishment he gave Cain after the slaying of Able.
Powers and Abilities[]
Adam el Asem is an extraordinarily powerful individual as he is the strongest known member of his species and, most probably, the most powerful human that exists. Adam, like his relatives, aged at a vastly slow rate and couldn't be harmed with normal means. He claimed dominion over all of IS, the primordial truth that paved way for the creation of the universe.
Adam was described as one of the most powerful reality benders, being able to bring people back to life, as he did with his son Able and create life from parts of his own body, as he did with his second wife Eve. He could also utilize thaumaturgy as could place irrevocable curses and take powerful objects from other universes. SCP-6765-D (Ogier), one of the four knights of the House of Apollyon, who worshipped Adam was able to draw some of his divine power for his own use.
To add to his incredible powers, Adam also possessed the Spear of the Non-Believer and the Crown of Apollyon. With the Spear, Adam was capable of destroying any god who was unable to defend themselves from the weapon or even perceive it, seemingly using it to shatter Mekhane. With the Crown which was made out of a star Adam's powers were enhanced, further increasing his already incredible powers. Adam also had access to the Old Library, a library that contained all the knowledge of the universe.
Followers[]
Adam was seen as a divine figure revered by a number of groups and recognized by others as the all-powerful progenitor of all of humanity and the ruler of all that was IS, that being the parts of reality that existed as opposed to IS NOT which was nonexistence. The citizens of Audapaupadopolis loved and respected Asem as their king and allfather who stood his ground against other gods, until their kingdom inevitably crumbled and he disappeared. In the following centuries, Asem would become a mythical figure still revered by a number of people.
Humanity would be called by other species as the Children of Asem, since most humans descended from him. The House of Apollyon's Cult of Idus, which the state religion of Apollyon, recognized Asem's importance in their history, as his crown and spear were instrumental in the rise and maintenance of the House, but didn't worship him, instead the House's citizens directed their worship to the current Sky King who wielded the crown and the spear. The E-Rikeshans, on the other hand, directly worshiped Asem and his light. In their beliefs, Asem was associated with the sun, his body had been broken and his remains scattered across the world, but his divine light was still present and empowered specific individuals. Because of these differences, the House of Apollyon would war against the E-Rikeshans, though Ogier of the latter would join the House while still holding his belief in Asem.

Trivia[]
- In-universe "Asem" means "IS", making his name "el Asem" mean "of IS", since in Hebrew "el" translates to "of". Out-universe Asem in Arabic means "savior, protector, guardian, defender", but it could also be derived from the Hebrew word Hashem which is a title for God.
- The "el" in his name was originally written with a capitalized E, before being written in lowercase in subsequent articles. As per the Hebrew writing, the lowercase "e" is the correct form of writing.
- The name Audapaupadopolis appears to be based on Konstantinoupolis, the capital city of the Roman Empire. Constantinopolis translates to 'city of Constantine', and henceforth Audapaupadopolis should mean the "city of Audapaupad".
- According to SCP-3740, during a confrontation with Adam he ended up slamming his genitals on Adam's face.
- SCP-2783 suggested that Asem is Dr. Clef, which coincided with a popular headcanon hinted in various articles. However, SCP-6666's article made it clear that Asem and Clef are two completely separate characters.
- A card of Dr. Wondertainment's SCP-3301 titled the Serpent states that the Serpent had tricked Adam into eating from the Tree of Knowledge in order to free itself. However, this contradicts the Wanderer's Library's "Historia Europa I".
- There had been other characters based on the biblical Adam that appeared in other SCP series such as "Verse of an Endless Song", "The Trashfire" and SCP-7376. But these versions were not portrayed as villainous (aside from Adam's progenitor Adamah from "Species of Interest-004"), and this page only covers the depiction presented in "Project PARAGON", which is the only SCP series thus far to depict the biblical Adam as a villain.
