Let me taste the blood of my enemies.
~ Adrian making his deal with Dis, also his most famous quote.
Adrian: Do you think I will have a world to rule at the end of all this?

Daroc: Yes. What else are we working toward?
Adrian: Sometimes I can't remember.

~ Adrian wondering what the end of his crusade will look like.

Adrian Aleksandr Vasiliev, also known by his formal title as the Blood King, is the titular deuteragonist of the Adrian x Isolde series.

He is a former human turned vampire king that made a deal with the goddess Dis in order to survive the purging of the witches so that he may one day find the reincarnation of his wife, Yesenia, who would later be revealed to be the Princess of Lara, Isolde de Lara. However, despite his heroic attributes, his deal with Dis also made him more susceptible to her control, and he became much more violent and brutal as a result.

Biography[]

Past[]

According to Noblesse Gesalac, Adrian was an impoverished farm boy in his youth, who had a broken soldier for a father and and an alcoholic prostitute for a mother. Regardless of whether or not this is true, Adrian would work hard and train, and eventually become a royal knight for Revekka.

Adrian would meet Yesenia through his service as an Elite Guard, as Yesenia was a royal witch. They eventually fell in love and made a plan to start a family together, but a paranoid King Dragos declared that all witches were to be executed, and Adrian was forced to watch Yesenia burn to death in front of his eyes. There, he swore revenge, making a deal with the goddess Dis in order to give him the strength he needed to never be hurt again.

Due to the brutal phrasing of Adrian's wish, where he stated that he wanted to "taste the blood of his enemies", Dis decided to turn him into a monster that fit this profile; a vampire. Dis made Adrian into the Blood King, making him the strongest vampire to ever live, although he shed nearly all of his humanity in order to fit this role.

As his first act of revenge, Adrian planned to execute King Dragos and take over Revekka for himself. Dragos begged for his life, even offering up his own pregnant wife to Adrian in exchange for mercy, but there was nothing Dragos could offer that could calm Adrian's anger. The Blood King executed Dragos with a dull blade, and harvested the man's bones to build a throne out of. Adrian tried to calm Dragos' wife down after her husband's execution, but she was so terrified of Adrian that she instead chose to kill herself.

From there, Adrian began to rule Revekka as his own kingdom, beginning the start to his near two hundred year long conquest to conquer all of Cordova, all while awaiting for Yesenia to be reborn.

King of Battle and Blood[]

Decades later, Adrian would finally find the reincarnation of Yesenia; a princess named Isolde de Lara. Despite her initial disgust of him, her soul felt attraction to him due to their marriage in her past life. In order to marry Isolde so he could help her regain her memories of her past life, Adrian struck a deal with her father, the King of Lara, saying that he would spare all their lives if Isolde agreed to marry him. With no other choice, the royal family agreed, thus allowing Adrian to help Isolde slowly regain her memories, until she remembered who she was fully.

However, upon realizing that his daughter was loyal to the vampires instead of Lara, and that Adrian could be killed if Isolde were to die, the King of Lara made the tough choice to try and kill Isolde, though he was struck down by his daughter before he could succeed. During the burning of the King of Lara's body, Adrian is present with Isolde.

Personality[]

Adrian was once a very kind man, who served as a knight for the king when he fell in love with Yesenia. However, after her death, Adrian became fuelled with hate, so much so that he was willing to make a deal with Dis, a powerful goddess. This deal resulted in monsters plaguing the world, with him leading the vampires as their king. He would conquer kingdoms with the strength of his army, and slaughter anyone who stood against him without hesitation, contrasting greatly to the honourable knight he once was.

However, despite initially being a kind man, Adrian claims that he was always this monstrous deep down, and that it was the deal with Dis that finally made his darker side come out, rather than it being Dis' fault he became like this.

Trivia[]

  • According to the author herself, "[Adrian's] ONLY redeeming quality is his love for Isolde, but that isn’t enough to forgive his evils".
