The African Killer Bees are the titular main antagonists of Irwin Allen's 1978 disaster/horror film, The Swarm.

The African killer bees were first seen at the beginning of the film when the two helicopters spots a swarm of african bees were spotted in front of them, just as one of the pilots describe to be a "black mask". The bees flied into the helicopters, causing the helicopter's power to fail and crashed into the valley below, killing every pilots on impact. Dr. Crane and Helena Anderson reveals that the killer bees attacked the underground ICBM bunker earlier, killing many people inside of the base.

Later, the killer bees were at the countryside of Texas near Marysville, just as Paul Durant and his family arrived for a picnic. After his father sprays the bees away, it triggers the attack toward Paul's mother and father, killing them, only for Paul runs off to their car just as he managed to find the keys and drive away. Soon, he came back to the town of Marysville while drving controllably in fear where they were prepared for a festival, crashing into a table of flowers. Paul was soon hospitalized thereafter. Back at the base, it was discovered that african bees are heading toward Marysville while stating that they killed their family except for Paul. Dr. Crane and Anderson drove to Marysville hospital to see Paul, where he was in bed, suffers a hallucination of a giant african killer bee in front of him. They soon chill Paul down and it was reveal to be a nightmare.

Dr. Crane later goes to the scene where the Durant family were killed, noticing the plastic cups were destroyed by bees. Later, Jud Hawkins goes over to the base to find out what happened to his son, only to discovered that he was killed by bees as he was put in a corpse bag. Saddened, he takes his son's corpse and departs, the entire crowd watched silently over the loss. Sometime later, Paul sneakily leaves the hospital and goes out to his friends, and throw firebombs at the bee's hives to avenge his family. Furiously, the African killer bees chases after the boys, However, they hide in empty trash cans to protect themseleves. The killer bees then leave just as Paul and his friends ran away.

On the road, Dr. Crane was at the van with Anderson in the countrysides. However, they witness that the killer bees are seen heading toward Maryville. They turn around and heading back to the town and Crane warns the police to get everyone inside before the bees approaches. Air raid sirens were alarmed, Dr. Crane warns everyone in Marysville to get inside. At school, Maureen Schuester orders the teachers and every students to get inside, but it was too late; the students were instantly killed by bees outside before they could've go inside, leaving Schuester completely distraught. Many people were attacked and killed by bees as the attack processes, Dr. Crane and Helena Anderson runs inside the restraunt, only for Helena getting stunned by a bee.

In the aftermath, much of the Marysville were severely damaged, many people who were killed by bees in their corpse bags. Fearing about the another attack, the citizens of the town climbed aboard the ill-fated passenger train to evacuate Marysville. The train however, was later attack by bees in the steep mountains, causing the train to lose control and derails. The derailment almost everyone aboard, leaving 17 passengers survived the crash. Learning that the killer bees are heading to Houston, Crane later goes on one of helicopters to drop eco-friendly poison pellets on them, hoping the bees' senses will be harmed, nothing worked. That night, the killer bees attack a nuclear powerplant near the town with Dr. Hubbard and Dr. Andrews inside, killing multiple workers, including Dr. Hubbard. The nuclear powerplant explodes, wiping out Hubbard, Andews, while also killing over 360,422 citizens near the town, too.

Eventually, Dr. Crane and Helena Anderson drove to Houston, Texas. Much of Houston were empty due to people were sucessfully evacuated the city before the swarm of killer bee arrives. Major Baker was seen waiting for them, just as the swarm of bees approaces the city. Slater orders the city to be burned, hoping to defeat the swarm once and for all. Flamethrower begin to vaporize the city, only for many of them were killed by bees outside, while others were burned when they got inside of the building. In the meantime, It was later reveal that they tested an alarm system at the ICBM bunker to attacted the bees. They soon evacuated the building, only for Major Baker and Dr. Newman to die from the attack of killer bees, while Slater sacrifices himself to save Crane and Helena from getting killed from bees.

Defeat[]

After Crane and Anderson escaped Houston, they went to the airport to get on the helicopter, to throw the floating alarmed systems and a water of oil at the Gulf of Mexico to give bees attention. All of the African bees flew into the alarmed systems, cause most of the bees get stucked in the water below. Dr. Crane immediately gets off the helicopter and order the military to fire the missiles into the bees target, setting the bees into ablaze, sucessfully killing all of the swarm of murderous african bees. Shortly after, their victory for Dr. Crane and Helena Andersan were left uncertain, wether its just a temporary victory.
