Another Single blow will certainly finish him through and I will send this idiot child to his death along with him.
~ Agahnim preparing to kill Link in front of his dying uncle.

Agahnim is the secondary antagonist of the Ataru Cagiva manga based on The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Unlike the games, he is a separate entity from Ganon.

Appearance[]

Agahnim is a blue-skinned man who dons red robes.

Powers and Skills[]

Agahnim holds power over electricity and can launch balls of magic as well as teleport. He is able to use spells that place people on death's door and no normal person can scratch him. He also can use light magic to bind people who interfere. However, there is a limit on how much power he can use before he has barely enough for his rituals which involve teleporting them to be an offering for Ganon.

Biography[]

Volume 1[]

Agahnim was riding in a carriage past a group of civilians when a child pleads with him to save his dying puppy. Hearing this, the priest revives the dog before heading on his path to Kakariko Village to deal with a plague. Sometime ago, Agahnim blacklisted entry into the Lost Woods. Link however was not trusting of him.

The Lost Woods is home to a sword used by a hero in an ancient legend, specifically the Master Sword. Later during a stormy night, Agahnim is confronted by the captain of the guard and Link’s uncle Zanji as he is heading to Zelda’s bed chambers. While Agahnim asks why they come, he decides not to be so wordy and asks how far they went before he had been found out.

The duo proceed to draw their blades only for Agahnim to overcome them, calling them no tougher than ordinary men. The priest tries to handwave it as a misunderstanding and tries to ask where their grudge comes from. However, he decides to claim their lives. Link arrives by their side as the duo are blown down by Agahnim who proceeds to proclaim that the spells he used can cause instant death.

As Link was over what Agahnim did to Zanji, the priest was about to kill him when the knight captain throws his sword to disrupt this attempt, telling Agahnim that it was a careless thing for him to do. Agahnim ackowledges that Link is strong and asks him how much more damage he can take. He tells the two that they are "helpless fools who have not seen the entirety of his power.

Agahnim leaves as he retreats to carry out a ceremony with Link telling his injured uncle Zanji that he will chase the priest who asks him to be quick on it as the sorcerer will instigate the destruction of Hyrule and lends his nephew his sword and shield to save Zelda from being sacrificed before dying of the wounds Agahnim inflicted him with.

Having barely enough magic left for the ritual, Agahnim starts to head for Zelda's location with Link managing to avoid being spotted before attacking him in his weakened state. But Agahnim still manages to prepare a ball of magic to throw at Link who manages to dodge it and slash through Agahnim, but he survives the hit and teleports away.

He remarks on how emotional Link was when he sought revenge, which makes him a liability to Agahnim's schemes, and he must die. Soon, he spots Link who was beng attacked by Zelda under the mistaken impression that he was a minion of Agahnim who has the knights of Hyrule with him and blocked off all escape routes. Link picks up Zelda and carries her as he crashes through a window. Agahnim promptly ordered Link to be hunted down and killed while lying about him being a kidnapper. As the knight captain is struggling to carry himself, Agahnim made note of his escape, but does not find it to be a pressing matter.

Agahnim then believes he can kill both Link and the captain at the same time when it turns out Link and Zelda could not be found. Agahnim places an order for an increase of guards and places a false bounty on Link. After Link and Zelda reach the great sage and find the guard captain alive in his church, it is revealed that Agahnim is sacrificing maidens to bring back Ganon who attacked Hyrule long ago.

Link sets off to evade people seeking his head for crimes Agahnim framed him for and procure the Master Sword as its the only thing that can put the sorcerer down. But to do so, he must procure three relics from three different ruins needed to unseal the Master Sword. After Link and company attain two of the crests needed to unseal the Master Sword, the King of Hyrule visits him to see how the search for his daughter Zelda is going.

The search lasted five days with no success, sleep, or rest which is taking a toll on them as they were tiring out with some wanting to sleep. This only served to hamper their morale. Agahnim also remarked that Zanji's honesty resulted in his death. After Link and Rasuka defeat the Moldorm and procure the last crest, he finds the secret passageway that Link and Zelda used, having felt the strong sense of their escape.

Agahnim scouts the passageway to seek out Zelda, musing that Link will die once Ganon returns and believes he might be resistant to the anti-demon barrier and bursts into Zelda's hiding place where the sage tells her to stay put where he is confronted by the sorcerer.

Zelda draws a sword in an attempt to resist Agahnim, only for him to subdue and capture her. The sage tries to stop him, but Agahnim smacks him aside and refrains from using magic as he needs it for the ritual intended for Zelda.

Volume 2[]

As the Knight Captain and Rashka are fighting off soldiers to save the captured Zelda, Agahnim greets the king with her and when he offers something in turn for her safety, Agahnim reveals his true colors when he demands the king's life as he no longer sees any use to fim. Agahnim then vows to make haste as it will not be long before the captain and Rasuka breach the defense line made by the guards when a voice tells him that hsi enemies are getting close.

Suddenly, Link shows up with the king still alive. He demands the release of Zelda much to the treacherous priest's annoyance at him being a hindrance. Link also calls Agahnim out on his betrayal of the family and the murder of his uncle Zanji. When Agahnim makes another attempt on the King's life, Link stands his ground and protects him and rushes off to save Zelda.

As Agahnim prepares to sacrifice Zelda, he seals the doors to the chamber in hopes of stalling Link, but it still failed to stop him much to Agahnim's shock. However, Agahnim binds Link in place with light magic to prevent his interference in Zelda's sacrifice. Even when Link breaks free, it was too late as Agahnim sent Zelda to Ganon with Link vowing not to let the sorcerer get away with this.

Raksha makes a point not to interfere with Link's fight and only he should avenge his uncle alone. Link dodges a fireball launched by the priest much to his frustration and surprise as Link is fighting more like the legendary hero. He promptly warps, claiming it will make no difference.

Agahnim then proceeds to conjure up a spell in order to send Link down to the underworld. But Link manages to deflect it back at the sorceror who warns him that Ganon will not be overcome as easily. Link and company then find themselves in the Dark World afterwards thanks to a last ditch spell from the sorceror.

Afterwards, the King of Hyrule opens up a meeting about Agahnim's teleporting the seven maidens, including his daughter, to the sacred land Ganon was in. The descendants of the seven sages then suggest that they form an army in order to stop Ganon.

Volume 3[]

Despite his apparent death, Agahnim turns out to be alive after all seven maidens were saved, waiting for Link and company to come in order to determine who will be the true victor. It was not long before they cross paths with the priest in Ganon's tower. The captain quickly realizes that the Agahnim defeated in Hyrule was a replica.

Link then prepares to ensure his uncle is avenged this time. But the sorcerer claims Link will not defeat him. Agahnim then reveals that he has Kanika in an orb and demands Link to have the Master Sword tossed aside with the implied threat of killing Kanika. Link obliges, but then it is revealed that Kanika was his crony the whole time.

Agahnim also reveals that he had other replicas in order take action and finish the three heroes while they do not have the Master Sword. Just as Agahnim is about to finish them off, Kanika; who had a change of heart; smashes a crystal ball which was in control of the replicas which Link and company finish off.

Just as Kanika returns the Master Sword, the real Agahnim kills him for his betrayal. But he is subsequently stabbed by Link, with Agahnim muttering Ganon's name.
