Agent Mason is a major antagonist in the 2024 Paramount+ action-adventure comedy miniseries, Knuckles, a spin-off of the Sonic the Hedgehog film series.
He was once a former underground wrestler and boxer before joining G.U.N. to fight aliens. Eventually, Mason and Willoughby dropped out, and began working for the Buyer, tasked with capturing Knuckles.
He was portrayed by Kid Cudi.
Personality[]
Mason is a smug and confident man who wishes nothing more than to fight unfairly and release a portion of his sadistic urges onto his opponents, best shown having to enjoy messing with Wade during their encounter and tries to deliver cool lines to fuel his egotism. He doesn't normally work well with Agent Willoughby at times, sometimes getting into a feud and tries to brush off any credit of her saving him, claiming he was trying to make a sacrifice before deciding it was "team effort". He also laughed at her being thrown into the ring.
However, Mason is proven that he at least cares about his mother, as he is shown to be polite when he was around her and is quick to prioritize seeing her while trying to beat up Wade.

Past[]
Mason was said to have once participated in underground fights back in his day, going up against fellow fighters in cage matches and backyard brawls, however, none of the satiate his urges and at best, presumably lost a few times, not liking to fight fairly at times. Eventually, he found himself signing up for G.U.N. and becoming an agent for the opportunity to fighting and beating up extraterrestrial aliens for the sake of it. Once Operation Catfish was a failure and G.U.N. allowed Sonic and his friends live peacefully on Earth, Mason, at some point, teamed up with Agent Willoughby, and they were hired by The Buyer to capture Knuckles. At the same time, he and Willoughby had made a pact on selling weapons to him.
Knuckles[]
He and Willoughby were first seen getting a trace of Knuckles' current whereabouts. Once he left Green Hills with Wade Whipple, Willoughby hacked the computer transmitting information about Knuckles' whereabouts, so that she was the only one who could track him. She then explained her backstory to a G.U.N. agent named Agent Farley before Mason pushes him through a ring portal to a cliff on the Mushroom Planet. After The Buyer supplied the pair with some of his weapons, Mason and Willoughby went to the bowling alley Knuckles was at and proceeded to fight him. Knuckles held up his own, but Willoughby was eventually able to catch him off guard, opening a ring portal underneath him and transporting him into a cage.
The agents arrive IceCap Ski Resort to meet The Buyer while Knuckles taunts them. Mason and Wade fought, while taking a pause when Mason answer a phone call from his mother. He then says that being part of G.U.N. meant he "no longer had to fight fair." Wade accepted these terms, defeating him using unorthodox tactics and rescuing Knuckles.
Mason and Willoughby soon met up with The Buyer in person, re-arming themselves after The Buyer agrees to give them another chance. They go after Wade's family. Tipped off by Wade's estranged father and bowling champion, Pistol Pete Whipple, the agents caught Wade's mother, Wendy, and her daughter, Wanda, and brought them to Pete's suite, where the latter reveals his betrayal to Wade. They threatened his family in order to capture Knuckles. However, Knuckles, through Wade's earphones, overhears their plan, and he and Wade planned an ambush. A fight occurs between Knuckles and the agents while Wade frees Wendy and Wanda. Knuckles finally decided to put an end to it all. Willoughby shot two rings, but Knuckles didn't fall for that trick again. And then, he hit the rings, causing them to fly in opposite directions. Just then, the portals opened, and started to suck in what was nearby. It attracted Mason and Willoughby. Knuckles managed to hold on to the ceiling, Mason held onto a piece of furniture, and Willoughby grabbed Mason's legs, leaving them with a portal in front and one behind. Suddenly, Willoughby slipped, and was sucked into the portal behind her, which amused Mason. And then, Willoughby was spit out of the portal in front of him. Willoughby collided with Mason, which made him drop his gloves. And then, they were both sucked into the portal behind them. Afterward, the portals attracted to each other and closed, presumably killing Mason and Willoughby.
Powers and abilities[]
- Superhuman strength: With the aid of his specialized gloves that he received from The Buyer, Mason possesses incredible strength, allowing him to fight on par with Knuckles.
- Bio-electricity generation: Mason’s gloves could generate the same red electricity that Knuckles emits. Mason could also use this electricity to create electricity based shockwaves when he punches things.
- Expert combatant: Having been in various intense fights since his younger days, Mason is a very formidable opponent. He was able to fight on par with and at times overthrow Knuckles, who is regarded as the most dangerous warrior in the galaxy.

- Kid Cudi previously served as the singer for Stars in the Sky, which was the ending song to Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
- The Scavengers, Agent Mason, Agent Willoughby, and Dr. Robotnik are the only antagonists who have an unknown fate.
