The Aging Devil is a major antagonist in the manga/anime series Chainsaw Man, serving as the main antagonist of the current arc in Part 2: The Academy Saga.
It is a Primal Devil and one of the most powerful and oldest devils in the universe. It is also revealed to have passed a contract with the Public Safety when it accepted to be eaten by Chainsaw Man in exchange for the death of 10,000 children.
Appearance[]
The Aging Devil is a tall, skinned demon with a first face that is sliced in half and a second one that only has its mouth on it. Its body possesses many holes, and a big one here is where its heart should be, and its feet are in the form of high heels.
The throne where it sits frequently is composed of many human parts, of which the most notable are the fingers on the back and the four mouths on the bottoms of it. It is also composed of two young men with their hands cut who serve as the throne's legs.
Personality[]
The Aging Devil is a nihilistic individual who is completely apathetic to everything, even to its own life as shown in the contract it has passed with Public Safety, it has also a weird sadistic obsession with killing children as shown when this is what it asked to be eaten by Pochita and even describing that as "romantic", it is even ready to free Denji of its Aging world if he convince Pochita to do it showing how much of a sadist it is.
It is also showing its lack of empathy when it doesn't understand why Pochita and Denji doesn't want to sacrifice children to save themselves despite Denji telling him that Pochita is a hero and would never do that, it also showed a surprising amount of respect towards people who surprised it as shown when Yoshida has sucessfully managed to immobilised Pochita and make him vomits the Ear Devil and the Aging Devil congratulated him for that.
Despite it's crimes and sadistic tendencies, the Aging Devil appears to have a genuine motivation for all of this, principally wanting Humanity to discover unseen concepts in the future if they can't die of old age.
Biography[]
The Aging Devil first appeared when three Public Safety operative were tasked to hit Pochita with their cut fingers, following that, it used its right hand to hit the Chainsaw Devil but was injured by him and lost two fingers as a result, it then congratulates Yoshida, who successfully managed to use the Octopus Devil to make Pochita vomit the Ear Devil. Fumiko stated that Public Safety had arranged a deal with the Aging Devil, who was willing to be consumed by Pochita in exchange for the sacrifice of 10,000 children which caused shock among certain government officers who heard it. Following the Mouth Devil being consumed by Pochita, the Aging Devil was given the task of hitting Pochita a second time and made the decision to use both hands to do so. Unfortunately for it, Pochita cuts its two hands this time.
After Pochita was wounded by Yoru, the Aging Devil appears before Pochita and uses its blood to heal him, before asking to be consumed by him, noting that every time he takes a bite from its body, children will perish. Pochita ignores it and decide to go to the blood donors' sign which infuriated it. Yoru appears and accuses the Aging Devil of stealing her prey and using the Tank Devil's power against it with anger, the Aging Devil effortlessly blocks her attacks and is perplexed that Yoru believes such attacks could cause its death. Angered by the lack of respect shown towards it by Pochita and Yoru, it decided that they were not mature enough to talk with it and sent them to the Aging World, a world that it had complete control of and where it is impossible to die or escape.
It later appears to Denji in its world and proposes that he be freed if he manages to convince Pochita to eat the Aging Devil. Denji naturally refuses, saying that it never occurred to the Aging Devil that Pochita is a superhero and would never kill children to save himself. The Aging Devil, surprised that Denji was able to move on like that, tried to break him by saying that he never really loved Nayuta if he managed to overcome her death so quickly. Denji tells it that it has no knowledge of their connections and even if they are dead, he will find another family somewhere, the Aging Devil is completely astonished by these responses and claims that Denji is even more foolish than Pochita. It wonders how Denji came up with the idea of escaping here, but Denji responds that he's foolish and that his plan has already begun.
The Aging Devils explains to Denji that it hasn't given this world an exit and said that it isn't it's powers who turn humans into a tree after they spends 1 or 2 thousand years here but an innate mechanism they possess. In the human world, it said that it wants that humans live longer to try next possibilities even if it must kill 10.000 children for that while he sits on Tadashi Hasegawa and fearfuly agreed with what it's said. It then wonder what Denji could hope to do when he hasn't even lived 20 years and his blocked here which Denji respond by saying that since his stomach isn't in the Aging World he can be hungry. The Aging Devil is surprised by this and when Denji use an axe that Asa created to cut a humans tree to eat its guts so that Pochita can be boosted, the Aging devil understand Denji's plans and said to the Public Safety that Pochita will arrive soon.
Trivia[]
- It is the third Primal Devil to appear in the series, following the Darkness Devil and Falling Devil.
- However, it is chronologically the fourth Primal Devil to be introduced, as the Death Devil (who has yet to officially appear) is mentioned in prior arcs to be a Primal Devil.
- It is also the first Primal Devil to have passed contracts with the Public Safety.
