Ah-Kel is the main antagonist of the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Vortex".
He was portrayed by Randy Oglesby, who also portrayed Silaran Prin in "The Darkness and the Light".
Biography[]
Ah-Kel was a twinned Miradorn who came to Deep Space 9 with his brother Ro-Kel to try and sell an item to Quark. Quark questioned the fact that a similar item had been stolen from a transport recently, but before they could go any further, Croden, a recent arrival from the Gamma Quadrant, entered with a gun and demanded they hand the item over. Ro-Kel fired at Croden, who killed him, before Odo restored order, taking everyone present into custody. Even though two people had been killed in the raid, Odo was unable to prove that Ah-Kel was behind the robbery so released him. Ah-Kel explained that Miradorn twins were two halves of a person and he was now incomplete. He was determined to get revenge on Croden and turned up at security with his crew but Odo turned him away.
Realising Croden was no longer on the station, Ah-Kel confronted Quark, rightly suspecting he had hired Croden to do the robbery. Quark denied it and helped Ah-Kel access confidential station records which showed that Odo was taking Croden back to his own people. Ah-Kel set off for the co-ordinates in his own ship. Odo refused to hand Croden over so Ah-Kel opened fire on his runabout. The runabout took refuge in a vortex full of flammable toh-maire gas. During the course of the subsequent pursuit, Ah-Kel was tricked into firing his weapons in the middle of a dense cloud of the gas, and his ship was destroyed in the resulting explosion.
