The fault lies with you, Ishmael!
~ Ahab's most famous quote.
My beliefs are absolute! My definitions of good and evil are clear-cut! Thus my beliefs are unclouded, unassailable. Because I have made it so.
~ Ahab displaying her narcissistic behaviour.

Captain Ahab, also simply known as Ahab, is a major antagonist in the 2023 gacha game Limbus Company, created by Project Moon. She serves as the main antagonist of Canto V: The Evil Defining.

The former captain of the Pequod, Ahab led a crusade against the Pallid Whale to hunt it down, rallying up everyone else on her crew into doing so. When they got eaten by the it, the crew of the Pequod decided to make Pequod Town, which is stationed within the beast itself. She is the arch-nemesis of Ishmael, who seeks to kill her.

She was voiced by Lee So-yeong.

Appearance[]

Ahab is a tall, elderly woman (that looks like a man) with curly grey hair that reaches her thighs. Her left leg features a black and gold peg, which is shown to have a spiked end after it was modified. She also wears a green captain's outfit, an untucked white button shirt, dark green pants, white gloves, and a captain's hat, as well as a belt around her midsection. A long harpoon with an orange glowing cylinder in the middle of its spiked end can be seen on her back.

Upon activating her E.G.O, GasHarpoon, Ahab's left eye, as well as her left arm, are completely consumed by the membrane, resulting in a large white biomechanical arm appearing. In the middle of her shoulder is a cylinder with a flame, as well as the end of a harpoon. Three bent gas pistons bearing the faces of Queequeg, Starbuck, and Pip (from top to bottom) are also seen on top of its shoulder as well, with the lights above their faces being purple, green and blue respectively. In addition, she also loses her captain's hat.

Personality[]

Ahab is a cruel, selfish, egotistical and charismatic manipulator that would do anything to achieve her narcissistic goal of slaying the Pallid Whale, to the point that she is willing to sacrifice her own crewmates and use them as stepping stones to reach its heart. She lacks regard for those around her, viewing her crew as merely extensions of herself, and although she at first comes across as a reasonable leader, that facade quickly drops once her true nature comes to light.

Her manipulative tendencies were also evident in Ishmael's backstory, with her using a bunch of false claims against the Pallid Whale, from claiming that it's the source of all evil so her crew could kill it, to claiming that it was going to cause the apocalypse just so she could justify the "noble sacrifices" of her crew.

Ahab is also skilled at gaslighting, making Ishmael believe that she is at fault for the Pequod crew's deaths while not even blaming herself once, showing how she takes no blame for the deaths she causes and blames them on other people. This gaslighting ended up being so strong that by the time the fight is about to end, Ishmael was very close to allowing herself to be pallidified.

History[]

Ishmael, having quit her job at U-Corp's Nest, met Ahab a long time ago. While not much is known about her, it's known that she assembled an incredibly loyal crew, the Pequod, to embark on her goal of slaying the Pallid Whale. Upon actually finding it she rallied up her crew to help her kill it, only to end up devoured by the Calamity along with the rest of the Pequod The only survivor of that event was Ishmael, who managed to survive, and was left with nothing but revenge against her former captain.

In Canto V, The Evil Defining, when the Sinners enter the Pallid Whale to retrieve the Golden Bough from its heart, they make their way over to Pequod Town, where after fighting a masked Queequeg, Ahab herself appears to welcome them all. It's here that it's revealed that her sheer charisma and determination had prevented the rest of her crew from pallidifying. After some commotion caused by Ishmael, Ahab convinces the Sinners to follow her to her office, where a deal is made shortly after Ishmael tries to kill her once again. The deal is to get to the heart of the Pallid Whale, and only then will Ahab allow Ishmael to kill her. To reach the heart, she devises a plan that splits up the two groups, wherein her own crew will traverse the pancreas, and the Sinners traverse a blood vessel that has lately become infested with various Abnormalities.

Eventually, the Sinners meet up with Ahab, only for her crew to be fewer than usual, with Queequeg, Starbuck, and Pip being the only ones left alive. As it turns out, shown through Dante's new power, Ahab had sacrificed a majority of her crew, either leading to their untimely deaths or them being pallidified. A few moments after this reveal, Ahab reveals that those pallidified by a Whale cannot attack it, and notes how the Golden Bough can reverse its effects. Demanding that Dante give her their head so she can slay the Pallid Whale, they rightfully refuse, which leads to a battle against her and the remaining Pequod crewmates.

After her first defeat, Ahab starts speaking to the Voice, only to reject it and manifest her own E.G.O; GasHarpoon, a manifestation of how she sees her crew as extensions of herself. It's there where she absorbs her most loyal crewmates (Queequeg, Starbuck, and Pip) and uses them for Gasharpoon's ammunition, proceeding to further gaslight Ishmael for "failing" the crew as the three crewmates are killed off one by one, the last of which, Queequeg, almost causing Ishmael to give up if it wasn't for Heathcliff, who saves her, and Dante, who spells out to her that if she kills Ahab, she'll end up being just like her.

After hearing some much-needed positive words from her manager, Ishmael looks as if she's ready to finally kill Ahab, only to kill the Pallid Whale instead, ripping out the Golden Bough from its heart using her personal E.G.O, Snagharpoon (which she used to break Ahab's GasHarpoon with prior), take the Golden Bough, and escape before the Pallid Whale collapsed, leaving Ahab screaming with rage. And with that, Ishmael lets go of her vengeance and chose to chart her own path instead.

At the end of Canto V, Hermann finds Ahab, who's still muttering about her delusions, until she is offered the chance to kill other Pallid Whales in other Mirror Worlds, the only thing being asked of her is her staunch determination and conviction.
