~ Slocum rationalizing having harassed, assaulted, and shot Cassie Germaine to keep her away from Terry Willard. |
Aimee Slocum is the secondary antagonist of the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode "Surveillance". She is the landlord of stalker Terry Willard, who beats, assaults, and finally tries to kill the object of his obsession, Cassie Germaine, so she can have him to herself.
She was portrayed by Jennifer Laura Thompson.
Overview[]
Slocum owns the apartment building where Terry Willard lives, and from where he has been stalking concert cellist Cassie Germaine for years. Slocum is in love with Willard to the point of obsession, but Willard ignores her because he is too entrenched in his own obsession with Germaine. Slocum grows to hate Germaine, seeing her a rival for Willard's affections rather than the innocent victim of his delusions.
"Surveillance"[]
Slocum's jealousy of Germaine reaches a boiling point when Willard refuses her invitation to a party to go to one of Germaine's concerts. Enraged, Slocum stalks Germaine to the concert hall where she is playing, overpowers her by striking her in the head, and sexually assaults her by repeatedly kicking her in the groin.
When Willard continues to stalk Germaine, Slocum again blames her for his behavior and begins anonymously harassing her by destroying her cello and leaving her threatening messages, including a bouquet of flowers containing a dead rat and a note, written in Germaine's own blood, reading, "Die bitch".
Ironically, these acts of intimidation increase police suspicion that Willard, the man Slocum loves, is committing them. Detectives Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler question her about Willard, and she replies that he is a loving, gentle man who wouldn't hurt anybody; she also says he is her boyfriend, even though his apartment is filled with pictures of Germaine, not her. When the SVU team arrests Willard, he vehemently denies having a romantic relationship with Slocum, dismissing her as "just my landlady".
Despite Willard's obvious indifference to her, Slocum pays his bail and takes him in. She then attacks Germaine again, this time beating her up and chopping off chunks of her hair. Finally, she shoots Germaine in the back, seriously injuring her, but she ultimately survives. Slocum takes Willard with her to a motel and tells him everything she did to Germaine, saying that she wanted her out of the way so they could finally be together.
To her disappointment, however, he is horrified and angered by what she did, and curses her for trying to kill "the love of his life". Enraged, she attacks Willard with a kitchen knife, stabbing him over and over until he finally bleeds to death. Knowing she will be caught, she does not even try to run or clean up the mess, instead taking a long, hot shower to wash Willard's blood off. Moments later, Benson and Stabler, having deduced that Slocum, not Willard, harassed and attacked Germaine, trace her to the motel and go there to arrest her, and find Willard's body. Slocum, dressed in a bathrobe, calmly confesses to killing him, justifying herself by saying that "he was never going to leave that whore".
After Benson and Stabler arrest her, she is found guilty of murder, attempted murder, stalking, and sexual assault, and is imprisoned for life.
