White House Officials later disclosed that the unusual flight of Air Force One was unauthorized and unmanned. The lone figure inside the plane, dubbed the Air Force One Angel, has yet to be identified by federal authorities.
~ Text displayed at the end of "AIRFORCEONEANGEL".
How will we divide the land? With our fallen angel, of course. Who would have thought he would land on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier? We found him before anyone else, burnt and broken from the blast. After we fix him, he will be a walking atom bomb. He will evict the Horned Serpent the same way he evicted the Traitor, President Rockefeller, from reality....
~ The ADA speaking on their plans for the Unification of 2003.
The advocates were deranged. They are all ashes now. We will not be used as weapons again. Leave us alone or join the ash pile.
~ The Angel speaking out to the government.

The Air Force One Angel, later known as the Air Force One Fallen Angel or simply as The Angel is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Freedom) of the alternate history analog horror series THE MONUMENT MYTHOS, the first installment in the franchise of the same name.

Once being a set of noble men who made the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of their country, they did not fully die, though, and become something more. In the wake of this transformation, they decide to wreak havoc on the one man who made them this way, President John D. Rockefeller. After this, their actions become somewhat of an enigma, joining the terrorist group known as the ADA for unknown reasons.

Though, deep down, the Angel only wishes to keep a resemblance of normalcy in their life after over a century of being used as a weapon and living through the path of revenge, eventually leading into their momentary retirement in Babylon Forest. The Angel's retirement wouldn't last longer than 2 decades, however, as the UZA government finally found them and arranged a confrontation between him and Freedom; a confrontation that, unbeknownst to them, would have repercussions beyond this world.

Appearance[]

The Air Force One Angel first appears as seventeen Florida University alumni who go and volunteer to help the fight in the Great War, operating the Anti-Airship Death Ray. When the weapon is used, they are atomized and reform into seventeen amorphous blobs of light. After discovering the nature of their existence, they reform into a thin, tall, ghostly-looking creature. It has a see-through humanoid form, with long, lumbering limbs, and a featureless, round head, all held together by a single spine-like structure, akin to an ethereal human nervous system.

After being shot down in the Air Force One, the ADA mentions that their appearance has been burnt and damaged, implying that there's at least some key differences between their "Fallen" appearance and their initial appearance.

Angel divides into the men

The 17 Men.

The Angel is then killed by Freedom using her Giza Glass sword, decapitating it. The Angel becomes a crown, forming a much more disheveled and bloated appearance, with it missing the lower half of what would be a human face, with the mouth and nose missing. It glows blue with energy, and is substantially larger than the trees that stand around it.

The Angel then fuses with Everett Anroldson and Freedom to form "A More Perfect Union." The Union has a bright pink glow, with a humanoid figure with many of its two legs, eight ribs, and four arms jutting out into sharp limbs. The Union also has small, bone-like frames for wings, and has a crown of stars and a face that more strongly takes on the look of Freedom, with long, streaking hair.

Finally, the men within the Angel disperse into stars that form the large, smiling face of the Manticore constellation.

Biography[]

The Great War and Operation Pyramid Plasma[]

During the Great War, after the Germans began to attack the Americans and Europeans with airships they were provided by President Rockefeller, President Charles Evan Hughes had to thereafter carefully destroy the airships as to not reveal their true nature, hiding beasts within them to allow their flight. This was done through several operations involving lasers utilizing Giza Glass, including Operation Pyramid Plasma. The Operation was a plan to destroy the Lustchiff Rockefeller 70 as it flew over the Pyramids of Giza, utilizing the earlier mentioned laser, fittingly called the "Anti-Airship Death Ray".

Seventeen alumni of Florida University volunteer to help operate the death ray, and are sent off to Giza in order to enact this plan. They set up the death ray atop The Great Pyramid, which is essentially a focusing lens with Giza Glass firing a beam of energy. When they go through with the activation of the ray, they successfully destroy the Rockefeller, but at the cost of the men being immediately vaporized.

Effects of Operation[]

After their immediate vaporization, the men become amorphous, semi-conscious shells of what they once were, wandering the desert aimlessly to decipher the nature of their conditions. When they finally decide to end their ambulation, they amalgamate into a single form, something greater than the sum of the parts. They no longer have to ambulate, and understanding the damning of their souls by Rockefeller. They begin and immediately fly to the United States.

Rockefeller's Assassination/Abduction[]

Throughout their travels, they watched President Rockefeller as he chose the Special Tree he had wanted for the Center in New York, and when it had arrived in New York in 1934 to assassinate Rockefeller, it had seen the Tragedy at the Center. Three years after the Tragedy, a revelation of Rockefeller's dealings in Germany had arose, called the Rockefeller Revelation, and public opinion of him quickly spiralled downward, to the despair of Rockefeller. He had stated in an untitled writing and/or quote, that he knew his assassination was inevitable. What he did not know was who the harbinger of his death would be, and it would quickly be revealed.

On May 23rd, 1937, to escape the crowds that were slowly closing in upon him, he went into a bunker under 30 Rockefeller Plaza, and did not come back out, and his body was not found. The Angel had shot, as investigators describe it, "possibly the most powerful heat ray ever built." into the bunker, and had left no trace of Rockefeller. The Rockefeller Foundation thought of this event as an abduction, and released two photos of the Angel, one taken by Rockefeller's Special Tree, and one taken in the Center in 1934.

The ADA later confirms in 2003 that Rockefeller was "evicted from reality" by the Angel.

Hijacking of Air Force One[]

After sixty-six years of inaction by the Angel, On August 17, 2003, it is ordered by the ADA to spread an "Infection" of sorts in the form of a package, which would be later be thrown throughout several monuments in the United States. It accomplishes to bypass the anti-burglar functions through unknown means, fly the plane across the United States, and drop the packages on three national monuments, those being Mount Rushmore, Alcatraz Island (currently located near San Francisco), and the Statue of Liberty.

The payload for Mount Rushmore is seen violently crashing into the ground, and over the week the monument becomes infected, foreshadowed by graffiti on the monument done by Nathaniel Arnoldson. The payload at Alcatraz Island assists it to expand and multiply faster. The effects of The Statue of Liberty payload cause the Special Tree contained within the Washington Monument to activate and bring forth the 20 missing Washington Absentees, as well as Maine to significantly expand it's territory for unknown reasons.

Before the Angel is able to land, Air Force One is shot down by the U.S. government due to flying into restricted airspace. However, as an aftermath of the event and the expanding nature of the Infection, the U.S. government had to change the way the border system works by updating them as the Zones spread. This causes them to become legally known as the United Zones of America (UZA).

World Egg Transmission[]

After the Air Force One is shot down, the Angel ironically lands on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and is found by the ADA shortly afterwards. The ADA announces their newfound motivation to release The Horned Serpent and plans with the Angel on a broadcast known as the "2003 World Egg Transmission", revealing that they plan to split the Earth open by force to free the Serpent by using the Angel and training him to be a walking atom bomb. They also confirm that former president, John D. Rockefeller, indeed died to his hands.

Mutually Assured Destruction[]

After the Unification, the Angel had set up an ultimatum for the government, stating that if it is used as a weapon again, all that confront it will become ash, like the ADA members before that utilized it for it's nuke-like destruction potential. The Angel then goes into hiding, where it is found twenty years later by the UZA government in Babylon Forest. After it is found, the UZA Department of Technology launched Operation Thunderbird, where they release Freedom to fight the Angel until they kill each other within the forest. This event heavily damages the crust of the Earth, prompting the Serpent to finally free itself and cause what became known as the Great Division, indirectly accomplishing the mission the ADA had set up for him years ago.

The Great Division Aversion/Reversion[]

The Angel telling Freedom to kill him.

With Freedom dead and the Earth destroyed, the Angel descends onto a remnant of the destroyed planet. The Angel encounters Cthonaut A, asking him for another chance. Cthonaut A tells the Angel that its had its chance, having cheated death in Egypt, but he suggests the being divide itself until it became nothing but particles, which would trickle through the timestream and allow it to alter the past. The Angel does this, preventing the Great Division by shifting the neurons in the head of its past self, making the past Angel instead ask for its own death rather than engage Freedom in battle. Freedom then decapitates the Angel, and begins to stare in awe at what it had just done. It stares for nearly a year.

A More Perfect Union[]

Freedom is released from her awe, as she attempts to attack the Angel once more, which has been turned into a Canyon Crown. She is stopped by a recently freed Everett Arnoldson, who has been warped by The Horned Serpent Metastructure into a being more close in appearance to the Special Trees than a person. The Angel stops their clash with a beam of light, near instantly destroying the Giza Glass sword she wielded. Freedom then reveals its true nature, with the souls of Nina and Thomas Crawford begging for safety. Freedom makes a truce with Everett, before stepping inside the Angel's inflated head, forming "A More Perfect Union", a fusion of the three. They then begin flying towards the recently released Martian Serpent to dispatch of it, flying past a moon base in the process. When they reach the serpent, they destroy it near instantly via contact. They then break apart, and form a constellation named "Manticore." Lauren Arnoldson speaks to the constellation, and asks of its makeup. It responds with "Good People." The Angel and it's seventeen souls forms the face, while Everett, Freedom, Nina, and Thomas form the body. Manticore then says goodbye to Cthonaut A.

Powers and Abilities[]

Being a being imbued with the power of seventeen corpses affected by Giza Glass, this beast hosts a plethora of strange abilities in order to enact its wants and needs.

  • Flight: The Air Force One Angel is capable of flight without bound, able to provide its own propulsion through anomalous means, allowing for sub-abilities such as levitation.
  • Superhuman Speed: Through flight and anomalous propulsion, the Air Force One Angel is able to travel from Giza to Florida within a matter of a few days, watching Rockefeller throughout the rest of his life.
  • Nigh-Immortality: The Air Force One Angel has shown that it does not age or decompose, surviving easily in a very similar state from the 1930s until at least 2003, but we are unsure of the Angel's durability and adaptability to survive being attacked in some form.
  • Self-sustenance: The Air Force One Angel has a lack of any innards and physical requirements for consumption.
  • Piloting skills: The Air Force One Angel easily flew the Air Force One across the United States with little to no issues, seeming able to reference knowledge the soldiers once had.
  • Electricity/Light Manipulation: The Air Force One Angel has demonstrated that it can shoot a laser powerful enough to melt a hole through a seemingly solid steel bunker. It is unknown if this energy from the laser is light, powered by Giza Glass, or lightning.
  • Noncorporeality: Has the ability to phase through highly solid objects, such as a secured plane door. It also warps materials it touches.

Trivia[]

  • The photograph of the Angel piloting Air Force One over the Statue of Liberty in AIRFORCEONEANGEL, its debut appearance, is a real photograph from a very real political scandal; in 2009, Air Force One - without the president on board - made an unannounced flyover of New York City from out of nowhere, followed by an F-16 fighter jet. The appearance of the plane over the city terrified the citizens below, who believed that it was a hijacked aircraft and that New York faced a terror attack similar in scale to 9/11.
  • Their appearance as a bright nervous system is in reference to Doctor Manhattan's first appearance after attempting to regenerate himself in Watchmen. Similarly, their powers are likely also a reference to the Doctor.
  • The Washington Zone is, despite its name, the zone affected by the payload thrown in The Statue of Liberty. Its name being a subtle reference to the Horned Serpent's real identity.
