Villainess Overview

Engage all hostiles! I've got the bridge!
~ Airachnid before massacring several of the High Guard on the bridge.
You can't win, miner! I see everything!
~ Airachnid taunting Orion Pax while pinning him to the nose of the train and also her last words in the film.

Airachnid is the secondary antagonist of the 2024 animated film Transformers One. She is Sentinel Prime's primary enforcer and covert-surveillance specialist.

She was voiced by Vanessa Liguori in her first villainous role.

Personality[]

Airachnid is a cruel, wicked, cold-hearted, sadistic and violent enforcer who is only concerned with maintaining Sentinel Prime's corrupt rule over Iacon City. She will punish those who step too far out of line when ordered to and never leaves Sentinel Prime's side unless she is dispatched to kill. She is more than happy to kill outright anyone who gets in her way once she is let loose.

She also appears to have no sense of humor, which can leave her in rather awkward positions; such as forcing herself to laugh with Sentinel Prime during his conversation with Orion Pax and D-16, when the latter feared demotion. Furthermore, as mentioned above, Airachnid notably only truly smiles when she sees the suffering of others, such as when Sentinel brutally murders Alpha Trion, the humiliating defeat of the imprisoned D-16, Bee, Starscream, and the remaining High Guard that she and her trackers captured at their base, and when Sentinel mutilates D-16’s chest, displaying her sadism, which is seemingly her only way to feel satisfaction or happiness for that matter.

Despite it all, she appears to be somewhat loyal towards Sentinel Prime and doesn't retreat once the miner cavalry arrive to fight off the Death Trackers, she even specifically orders the soldiers to prioritize protecting Sentinel Prime from the four heroes. Unfortunately, such loyalty isn't completely without bounds; as she did little to defend Sentinel Prime from the Quintesson High Commander's threats, although it's possible that Quintessons are stronger than her.

Biography[]

Airachnid has served as Sentinel Prime's right-hand enforcer throughout the last 50 cycles, being a part of the conspiracy that enables the Quintessons to rule Cybertron from the shadows. As first lieutenant, using her multitude of eyes to record and keeps tabs on nearly everything around her. Airachnid's mainly tasked to carry out the dirty work for Sentinel, intimidating those who speak out against him and keeping a watchful eye on his citizens, and she does so with eagerness and glee.

After the Iacon 5000 race finished, Airachnid is first seen entering the room where Orion Pax and D-16 were recovering; scanning them cautiously and fiercely to clear any threatening features for Sentinel Prime to enter the room and talk to them about the race.

Once Sentinel Prime started cracking up laughing at the duo being worried they might get demoted, Airachnid found herself awkwardly laughing along with it, despite seemingly not getting it. After Sentinel Prime offered them the opportunity to become spokespeople to inspire the cogless Cybertronians, Airachnid informed him of their need to leave for yet another "mission" before she was ordered by Sentinel Prime to have someone escort the duo into his "personal service-facilities", fully aware that the true order was to have Darkwing drop them off at sub-level 50 and announce that they had died in the Iacon 5000.

Later seen arriving at the coordinated sighting where the Quintessons arrived, Airachnid can be seen bowing alongside Sentinel Prime right behind the rest of his troopers before the Quintesson High Commander; offering the latest batch of Energon. She was then ordered to keep her eyes open for any potential witnesses nearby, which is when Sentinel pleaded to be offered more time with the mining regime; Airachnid spotted Orion Pax, D-16, B-127, and Elita-1 nearby - much to her annoyance. It was after the Quintessons left that Airachnid deployed an ambush in the caverns; sending in troopers to open fire, with Alpha Trion staying behind to give Orion Pax, D, Elita-1, and B-127 time to escape. Though Alpha Trion had the upper-hand in dealing with the attackers in-sight, Airachnid ambushed him from above and viciously began beating him down with her spider-like legs in a furious assault.

Managing to bring him back to Sentinel Prime's tower, Airachnid would sadistically watch firsthand as her master personally executed Alpha Trion out of annoyance with the elder Prime's speeches before she is then ordered to go after Orion Pax and the rest to stymie their certain interference. Locating Orion Pax and the others when they were captured by the High Guard and their base, Airachnid leads the troops in a bombardment of the whole area, allowing herself and her troops to capture half of the High Guard (including D-16, Starscream, and B-127) to bring back to Sentinel Prime for a mass execution while leaving the other half of the High Guard (including Orion Pax, Elita-1, Shockwave and Soundwave) for dead.

Returning with the captives, Airachnid boasts how easily tracking Orion Pax and the others' presence led her to finding the High Guard and stood witness to her master tormenting D-16 before he proceeded to painfully mark him with a scrambled icon of Megatronus Prime after she handed him an welding torch.

However, Airachnid would be alerted to an upcoming attack by the arrival of Elita-1 and the rest of the High Guard; ordering the troopers to keep guard of Sentinel while she deals with the incoming train with a dozen troopers. Airachnid would then ambush and attack Orion Pax when he and the rest of the miners arrived for back-up, furiously pummeling him with her spider-like legs until Orion Pax punched her back.

She then pins Orion Pax against the nose of the train and opening the back of her head to shown multiple eyes, taunting him by claiming that she sees everything and revealing the multiple eyes on the back of her head to prove her point. In response, Orion Pax taunts her back, revealing that he knows she can't see the train is about to crash into Sentinel's tower. This revelation surprises her and allows him to slip away, leaving Airachnid to be thrown aside.

Figuring out that Airachnid's unique ability and her memories are the key to exposing Sentinel Prime’s treason, Elita-1 is tasked with capturing her, however the former ends up catching Elita-1 outside the tower; pummelling her in a furious rage after nearly being crushed between a runaway train and a tower, until Elita-1 got the upper-hand and broke one of her spider-legs, and bashed her in the head with it repeatedly.

As soon as the trio infiltrated the broadcast station, Airachnid found her head forced down onto a table by Elita-1. Orion then takes the opportunity in hacking Airachnid's memory banks before using them to transmit video evidence of Sentinel’s crimes across Cybertron. This leaves Airachnid extremely discomforted as everyone finally learns the truth before turning against Sentinel for what he did. Eventually, Sentinel Prime was publicly executed by being torn in half by a vengeful D-16, subsequently christened as Megatron, which led the reformation of the High Guard known as the Decepticons.

Abilities[]

Powers[]

Cybertronian Physiology: As a Cybertronian, Airachnid possesses numerous enhanced abilities due to her mechanical nature.

  • Superhuman Strength: Airachnid's physical strength far exceeds that of ordinary Cybertronians, allowing her to overpower most opponents with ease.
  • Superhuman Durability: Her body is highly resistant to damage, making her capable of withstanding heavy attacks and harsh environments without sustaining significant injury.
  • Superhuman Speed: Airachnid moves with exceptional speed, outpacing most Cybertronians and performing swift maneuvers in battle.
  • Superhuman Agility: Despite her size, Airachnid exhibits remarkable agility, allowing her to perform complex movements and dodge attacks with precision.
  • Superhuman Stamina: Her can operate for extended periods without tiring, making her highly effective in prolonged combat scenarios.
  • Superhuman Reflexes: Airachnid's advanced reflexes enable her to react to threats in a fraction of a second, giving her an edge in fast-paced battles.
  • Longevity: Like all Cybertronians, Airachnid can live for millions of years, making her nearly ageless and able to withstand the passage of time without physical degradation.
  • Transformation: Airachnid can turn into a Cybertronian helicopter, allowing her to fly at extreme speeds.
  • Spider Legs: In robot mode, Airachnid has multiple spider-like legs that she uses to bombard her opponents in rapid-fire strikes. These were enough to subdue Alpha Trion, who unlike Sentinel was a true Prime. These legs can also transform into a copter jets which allow her to cut the High Guard and use as a makeshift shield that can deflect lasers.
  • Extra Eyes: The back Airachnid's head is composed of numerous closing panels that are littered with eyes on the inside, allowing her to notice almost everything around her.
  • Audio Recording: Like Soundwave, Airachnid is able to record audio. This gives her photographic memory of all of Sentinel's crimes which Orion used to hack her memory banks and play them to Iacon.

Abilities[]

  • Expert Combatant: Airachnid is a highly skilled fighter, proficient in various forms of combat, from hand-to-hand to advanced weaponry. Her experience and battle-hardened nature make her a formidable opponent in any fight. Although, she primary relies on sneak attacks to take out her opponents, as she did with Alpha Trion, D-16, and Orion. Her battle at High Guard base she manage to kill several up close. Ironically, Elita manage to defeat her by taking her by surprise.

Weaknesses[]

  • Visual focus: Despite having multiple optical sensors on both sides of her head, which would theoretically give her a 360-degree vision, Airachnid can only focus on one set of eyes at a time. This means that, contrary to her claims, she cannot see everything simultaneously, creating significant blind spots that her opponents can exploit during combat. For example, Orion Pax pointed out that she was unable to see the tower approaching, which the train was about to crash into.
  • Limited Durability: Despite her considerable strength, Airachnid was easily outmatched by Orion Pax, who punched her in the face with such force that it turned her head 180 degrees. Additionally, Elita-1 effortlessly broke one of Airachnid's spider legs and then repeatedly bashed her in the head with it.
  • Limited Strategy: While her spider legs are incredibly powerful and versatile, much like Sentinel, Airachnid has proven herself overly reliant on using brute force and ambushes over more strategic approaches and other strategies. Elita catching her off guard renders her unable to use her spider legs efficiently and subsequently allows her to deliver the beatdown on Sentinel's right-hand.

Trivia[]

  • This version of Airachnid is the third adaptation of the original character from the Transformers: Prime cartoon, with the second one being her G1 counterpart that was introduced in the IDW comics.
  • In the original storyboard of the after-credits scene, Airachnid can be seen joining the Decepticons. This scene was presumably cut due to clashing with Megatron's stated desire to kill any and all bots even remotely associated with Sentinel.
  • The rivalry between Elita-1 and Airachnid was inspired by the rivalry between Arcee and her Aligned counterpart from Transformers Prime series.
    • It could also be a reference to Elita-1's Animated counterpart, who takes on the form of Blackarachnia in that series after being mutated.
  • She was originally supposed to transform into a cybernetic spider. this was then changed into a form of helicopter.
