“ | Do you know how I turned Alliance into the biggest telecom in India? It wasn't by being the smartest, or the most talented, or the most well-connected. It was by working the hardest, it was by being the one who was willing to do whatever it takes. | „ |
~ Prasad to Chanda shortly before having him uploaded. |
Ajit Prasad is a major antagonist in season 1 of the animated series Pantheon. He is the CEO of Alliance-Telecom who is secretly running experiments with uploaded intelligence, and makes one of his employees an unwilling subject.
He was voiced by Ajay Mehta.
Biography[]
Prasad had discreetly been hiring vagrants off the streets of Mumbai by offering to take care of their families in exchange for donating their lives to his UI experiments. However, due to the flaw in the UI coding, the vagrants' digital minds decayed and degenerated into a nigh-catatonic state, their remnants collectively becoming known as the Clan.
After Vinod Chanda, a computer engineer for Alliance, has a business meeting about uploaded intelligence with a rival company, he is drugged, kidnapped and brought before Prasad in a scanner room. Prasad reveals of his dealings with the vagrants, and how their data was used for Chanda's research, before having his surgeons perform the uploading procedure on Chanda against his will. After his mind is uploaded, he is wiped of memory and set to continue working in Alliance's servers in a simulation of his office. The programmer managing him tells Prasad that Chanda's memory is reset every day, and a staged phone call from his mother is necessary as emotion helps his creative problem solving capacity. Prasad questions this as adding emotion "made the others useless", but the programmer assures him that the emotion added is just enough to serve as a progress utility stimulating love, rather than overwhelm. Mr. Prasad is impressed when Chanda writes an 80 page pattern in 15 seconds, which was technically 12 days from his perspective. The Clan eventually finds Chanda and show him the video of his uploading surgery, restoring his memories as he questions the nature of his existence.
Prasad is present at the Global Tech Forum, listening to Julius Pope's panel on what Stephen Holstrom would say of the world if alive today, and offers Pope a partnership in collaborating on UI research. Pope responds that the technology is dangerous to play with, unlike Alliance's "knock-off phones", to which Ajit mocks Pope by calling him a knock-off of Holstrom and warns him that he is not the only competitor on the market anymore, before heading to his presentation.
After Chanda escapes his program with the Clan's help, he hacks into Prasad's office building, sending his employees away before dialing up the heat in Prasad's shower and overflowing the gas pumps, which are then ignited to set the building ablaze. As Chanda shows Prasad's family the video of his upload, Ajit sends his wife and daughter away then tries to find his son Aaron, but Chanda answers when he attempts to report the hacking, saying he wants to hear Prasad scream as he loses everything. Prasad climbs up to the tower's helicopter landing pad to find nothing there, as Chanda vengefully watches him and his family burn to death through a camera.
