Akagi (赤城) is a major antagonist of Azur Lane franchise and the anthropomorphic version of the Japanese aircraft carrier Akagi. She serves as a playable character in the gameplay and the main antagonist of Sakura Empire events.
Outside the main game, Akagi is also the secondary antagonist of the 2019 anime adaptation, and the main antagonist of Azur Lane: Queen's Order spinoff. She is the archenemy of Enterprise and the rival of Shokaku, being the leader of the Sakura Empire's hard-line faction.
She is voiced by Mai Nakahara in Japanese version and by Amber Lee Connors in English version.

2019 Anime[]
In the 2019 anime, with the Commander in absence, Akagi did not fall into a romantic relationship with anyone. Instead, her twisted sense of love stemmed from her sisterly love towards Amagi and Kaga, which drove her into extreme measures in order to create a better Sakura Empire and bring back Amagi, even if she works with the Sirens.
The rest of her aspects is depicted rather closely towards her original game counterpart, but she lack her original counterpart's full insanity and did have a sign of remorse after seeing the dystopian future of Orochi setting the world in flame.
Crosswave[]
The Azur Lane: Crosswave version of Akagi is much more reasonable than her other versions, not showing any sign of insanity or obsession. She also acts more civil and less hostile towards Enterprise.

Queen's Order[]
Akagi serves as the main antagonist of Azur Lane: Queen's Order manga spinoff and its 2023 two-episode OVA adaptation. Overall, she is not acting evil there, and she loyally serves the Azur Lane and the Commander in the story. However, when it comes to Queen Elizabeth (who served as the spinoff's main protagonist), Akagi is the most antagonizing character in the spinoff.
In the story, the Commander fell severely ill for overwork, due to Elizabeth (who served as his secretary) pushing all the work at the Commander whereas other shipgirls giving him invitation for care and dating, as well as doing them some favor.
After learning that from Akashi, Elizabeth became afraid that the port would descend into chaos if everyone learned that the Commander had fell ill. As such, Elizabeth decided to conceal the Commander's condition and lied about him going on a top secret mission, leaving everything to Elizabeth herself as she was promoted as his secretary. Much to Warspite's annoyance, Elizabeth decided to conceal the truth indefinitely until the Commander is fully recovered from his illness.
Other than Elizabeth, only Warspite, Belfast, Sheffield, Akashi, Norfolk and Shiranui knew the truth as they secretly took care of the Commander in hospital, and Elizabeth also hid the truth from Valiant. On the other hand, Enterprise later (partially) figured it out that the Commander never left the port for some reason, but she did not look into full details about his conditions. Instead, Enterprise only discussed her deduction with Warspite in private, keeping it away from Elizabeth, and promised to keep it as a secret until the day Warspite can tell her the whole truth, much to Warspite's relief.
Nevertheless, Akagi was not convinced by Elizabeth's words, suspecting that Elizabeth was lying, and she began to inquire Elizabeth along with Kaga in an unfriendly attitude, so that she could learn the truth from her, no matter what the cost.
Akagi later escorted Nagato to participate the conference between faction leaders, with Cleveland served as the Eagle Union's representative as it lack a central leadership, Jean Bart served as the representative of the reunified Iris Dominion on Richelieu's behalf, Sovetskaya Rossiya served as the North Union's representative on behalf of Sovetsky Soyuz (who remained unseen in the spinoff), while the rest of factions were represented mainly by their respective leaders and escorts.
During the conference, Nagato, Bismarck and Jean Bart were confused about the Commander's absence, as it was impossible for the Azur Lane's core to be absent from the meeting. Soon, Elizabeth tried to convince everyone that the Commander was on a secret mission, of which she proclaimed she could not tell, much to Warspite's disappointment as she expected Elizabeth would tell everyone the truth.
Unconvinced, Akagi then dreadfully questioned Elizabeth whether she was lying. She then ignored Nagato's pleads to make it stop and accused Elizabeth of being a liar, who tried to abuse her position of secretary, keeping the Commander all for herself. This provoked a bitter argument between Jean Bart, Akagi and Rossiya. Flying into sheer rage, Akagi began revealing that every faction had invited the Commander to do them a favor for many reasons and in many forms, while Yat Sen trying to calm everyone down and Bismarck remaining calm in the argument.
Akagi's rant made Elizabeth to realize the Commander was also focusing other works outside the Royal Navy, which made her feel ashamed for putting him into such a state because of her laziness. Elizabeth then calmed everyone down and explained that she had her reason not to reveal the Commander's whereabouts and everyone need to work together to secure Azur Lane he worked so hard to build and maintain, which is the best for everyone that care about him.
Hearing this, Akagi's determination got toned down by Elizabeth's words, and she begrudgingly let go of it for the Commander's sake, no longer trying to inquire Elizabeth about the truth for the time being. However, later, during Elizabeth paying Shokaku a visit, Akagi still made her presences alongside Kaga, this time antagonizing Shokaku who had a bad blood with her.
