Akane Shinjo is the secondary antagonist of the 2018 anime SSSS.Gridman. She is a student with the ability to create kaiju and the master (and unwitting pawn) of Alexis • Kerib and Anti.
She was voiced by Reina Ueda in Japanese and Lindsay Seidel in English. In the live-action adaptation of SSSS.Gridman, she was played by Coco Nitta.
Personality[]
Akane has the ability to create kaiju, which she uses all the time to get back at people. She is very petty, being willing to kill people over things like being bumped into at school. She is also flirtatious, especially with Yuta.
It's revealed that she had created the city on her own, seeing everyone as code. Her redemption starts when she is forced to realize that the people she killed were more than machines. It's implied that she has severe insecurities, as her appearance in the "real world" is a lot plainer than her digital world counterpart which ironically became the basis of her attractive close friend Rikka Takarada.
Trivia[]
- Akane is based on the following characters:
- Takeshi Todo: Like Akane, Takeshi Todo designed kaiju for their inter-dimensional associate (in his case, Dark Lord Khan Digifer) to do whatever they please all while unaware the latter intended to exploit him for his own gain. They also redeemed themselves in the end of the series.
- Akane Tachibana: Akane, the minor character from Ultraman Cosmos, is similarly mentally troubled resulting her open to manipulations by a cosmic entity who even helped her created a kaiju where in her case, Chaos Head. Not surprisingly, both shows had Keiichi Hasegawa as their writer.
