Aknot is a major antagonist in the 1997 sci-fi action film, The Fifth Element. He is the leader of a race of shape-shifting alien warriors known as Mangalores hired by arms dealer, Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg to steal the four Elemental stones for the Ultimate Evil in exchange for crates of an all in one assault pod weapon system known as the ZF1 for their own personal revenge against the federal government for having scattered them into the galaxies.
He was portrayed by Clifton Lloyd Bryan and Vladimir McCrary (in human disguise form).
Personality[]
Unlike his men, Aknot appears to be more intelligent and patient. However, like his men, he can prove to be very vicious, violent, brutish, sadistic, ruthless, bloodthirsty, proud, cruel, aggressive, intimidating, temperamental, remorseless, and war-raging.
Biography[]
In the year 2214, Aknot and his men have been hired by arms dealer, Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg to destroy a Mondoshawan ship heading for Earth using two planes they borrowed from him in order to steal the four Elemental Stones stored in a case from its wreckage, which Zorg needs for his client, Mr. Shadow, in exchange for four crates of an all in one assault pod weapon system known as the ZF1 for their own personal revenge against the federal government for having scattered them into the galaxies. After destroying the enemy ship, Aknot informs Zorg of the mission's current success.
Having arrived at the rendezvous point within Zorg's factory, Aknot, having assumed temporary human form, and his men bring the case over to Zorg. After Zorg encourages Aknot to revert back to his original form, Aknot and his men are given a demonstration of the ZF1. Ironically, Aknot seems less impressed than his men are. When Zorg asks for the case, Aknot's men don't hesitate to bring it over to him. However, the case turns out to be empty, later revealed that the Mondoshawns didn't fully trust the human race and instead, entrusted the stones to an alien diva, Plavalaguna whom they were scheduled to meet on planet Phloston. Disappointed, Zorg tries to renege on his deal. Nevertheless, Aknot orders his men to ready their weapons and demands a little compensation for all their efforts given how they almost risked their lives for the item he requested, whether empty or not. So, Zorg decides to leave them one crate for the cause, not knowing that Zorg deliberately failed to warn them about the weapons' self-destruct sequence button and letting most of them die in the resulting explosion while Aknot survives, but is badly injured.
Vowing revenge on Zorg for his betrayal, Aknot decides to take matters into in his own hands. Having learned that Korben Dallas, a former major in Earth's Special Forces, now a recently fired cab driver, has won a luxury vacation aboard a flying hotel on planet Phloston in a rigged radio contest hosted by Ruby Rhod as part of his cover to meet Plavalaguna (courtesy of Korben's former military superiors), Aknot sends his men to murder a few police officers having arrested Korben under false accusations of uranium smuggling (courtesy of Zorg in order to allow one of his henchmen, Right Arm to take his place instead) and kidnap him. Then, Aknot places his second-in-command, Akanit in charge while he recovers from his injuries in order to steal the stones for themselves and blackmail Zorg before sending two of his men (one of them disguised as Korben) to board the ship headed to the hotel on planet Phloston, unaware that the "Korben Dallas" they kidnapped is actually a bogus. When that plan backfires, the Mangalores go to Plan "B" and illegally board the ship.
At the hotel, Aknot, in human form once again, poses as a maître-d' serving champagne before being shooed away by Ruby Rhod. When it is time to act, Aknot sends Akanit and some of his men to raid the diva's room while she's singing at the opera house, only to find themselves fighting against Leeloo alias the fifth element and sole survivor of the Mondoshawn ship crash earlier. Having been informed by one of his men of the unexpected ambush, Aknot decides to re-assume command and initiate an all-out war within the hotel. Aknot and some of his men enter the control room, kill a few crew members, and hold the rest including Father Vito Cornelius being held and detained for having stowed away earlier hostage as they take over the ship. In the ensuing gun battle, Korben recovers the stones from the diva shot dead by the Mangalores and kills most of them with a little help from a cowardly Ruby.
In the control room, Aknot and his 11 remaining men continue holding hostages while killing anyone else who intervenes and tries to rescue them. After Korben guns down seven of them, Aknot threatens to kill the hostages, starting with Father Cornelius if anyone shoots again and unless they send out a negotiator. Eventually, Aknot is shot dead on the forehead by Korben entering the room, knowing that the Mangalores won't be able to fight without the leader, thus, forcing them to surrender.
After the hotel has been evacuated due to a bomb planted by Zorg earlier, all Mangalores, dead or not, are destroyed along with the rest of the ship after Akanit activates a mini-nuke in order to exact revenge on Zorg who was also on the ship to deactivate his own bomb since neither parties succeeded in recovering the stones at all.
With both parties killed, Korben and his friends are safe to return back to Earth in Egypt just in time to use both Leeloo and the stones altogether against the Ultimate Evil heading straight for Earth and destroy it once and for all as well.
