Your deepest dark,
Your doubt, your pain,
I'll take that spark, fan it into flame.
Every lost and lonely soul,
Let Hawk Moth take control!
I'll give purpose to your worthless lives,
Not hesitate to throw you aside!
~ Hawk Moth freeing and creating the Akumatized Criminals.

The Akumatized Criminals are the secondary antagonists of the 2023 animated musical superhero film Ladybug & Cat Noir: The Movie. They are a band of imprisoned criminals that are freed and Akumatized by Hawk Moth in order to seize Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculouses.

History[]

Little is known about each of the criminals before their emergence, other than each of them being imprisoned for various crimes in Paris. Shortly after using the Butterfly Miraculous to become Hawk Moth for the first time, Gabriel Agreste, disregarding the warnings of his Kwami, Nooroo, decides to use his power to create the chaos necessary to draw out Ladybug and Cat Noir so he can steal their Miraculous and use their power to revive his wife, Emilie. To this end, Hawk Moth breaks into the prison where the criminals are being held, breaking them out of their cells and Akumatizing them into different supervillains.

The criminals would subsequently be unleashed upon Paris, starting with the Magician and the Mime, who attack the back to school fair alongside their minion Badoom to lure Ladybug and Cat Noir into action; ultimately being defeated and de-Akumatized by them. Over the course of several weeks, more of the criminals would emerge across Paris to menace Ladybug and Cat Noir, only for each of them to be defeated and returned to prison, leaving Hawk Moth frustrated at his constant defeated. With all of his minions defeated, Hawk Moth would initiate a final attempt to defeat Ladybug and Cat Noir by Akumatizing himself; ultimately failing in this attempt, and surrendering himself.

List of Known Members[]

  • The Magician: Possesses vast magical powers, including telekinesis, levitation, creating minions, and changing the size of objects.
  • The Mime: Possesses superhuman strength and can also pantomime various objects into existence, such as explosives, guns, and other weapons.
  • Snailman: Can generate bubbles capable of trapping anyone they touch.
  • The Mole: Presumably possesses superhuman digging abilities.
  • Unnamed thug supervillain: Presumably possesses superhuman strength.
  • Unnamed bomb supervillain: Presumably has the ability to generate bombs.
  • Unnamed clown supervillain: Unknown abilities.
  • Unnamed masked supervillain: Unknown abilities.

Trivia[]

  • Unlike the majority of Hawk Moth's victims from the television series, the criminals were villainous even before they were transformed into his minions, and were specifically targeted for having more hatred and negativity than most citizens of Paris.
    • Also unlike most of Hawk Moth's victims, their appearances change very little from their civilian forms to their supervillain identities; presumably as a result of them already being villainous in nature.
  • The Gargoyle is the only one of Hawk Moth's Akumatized villains that has no association with the Akumatized Criminals. The unnamed croissant supervillain, the Bubbler and Guitar Villain are also possibly unaffiliated with them since Hawk Moth is not seen breaking them out of prison; although the latter two are said to have been imprisoned following their defeat.
    • Assuming Bubbler and Guitar Villain aren't affiliated with the Akumatized Criminals, the Mime is the only member of the group who appeared in the original series. Concept art for the film also depicts the villain Stoneheart, implying that he might have been a part of the group at some point during the production.
  • Several of the villains Hawk Moth frees from prison are not seen again after he does so, including the unnamed bomb supervillain, the unnamed clown supervillain, the unnamed masked supervillain, and an unnamed ninth villain. Presumably, each of them were defeated and returned to prison by Ladybug and Cat Noir like Hawk Moth's other minions.
