Al-Owal first appears ambushing Oliver and Sara at their house. Oliver defeats him but Al-Owal manages to escape.

While at a warehouse serving as a makeshift headquarter of the League, Oliver attacks Al-Owal, shooting an arrow at him but Al-Owal catches the arrow, taunting Oliver about what chance Oliver has against him, if he barely defeated his former protege' Malcolm.

Sara then appears and Al-Owal demands that she returns with him to the League, which Sara refuses. AL-Owal and two of the assassins who came with him then attack Oliver and Sara. They hold them and escape. Al-Owal then threatens to kill Sara's family.

After Sara reunites with his father Detective Lance, the two assassins once again ambush Sara and her father. With Oliver's help, Al-Owal is killed by Sara, while one of his henchmen is shot by Detective Lance and the other one flees, returning to Nanda Parbat to tell Ra's al Ghul about their failure.
