Albert Fish is the titular main antagonist of the 2007 film The Gray Man. He is based on the late real-life serial killer of the same name.

He was portrayed by Patrick Bauchau, who also portrayed Scarpine in A View To a Kill.

Biography[]

Albert Fish was born in Washington D.C. on the 19th of May in 1870 under the name Hamilton Howard Fish and changed his name to Albert to avoid his nickname of “Ham and Eggs”. When Albert was 5 years old he lost his father, Randall, resulting in Albert’s mother, Ellen, sending him to live in an orphanage due to being unable to afford to care for him.

When he lived in an orphanage he developed a liking for sadomasochism as a child when teachers would force him and other boys to strip before proceeding to beat them. When he was working as a painter he tried to trick Mrs. Karlson into kidnapping her son, Timmy, under the pretense of taking him to the movies. When Mrs. Karlson declines his offer, Albert sends her a very insulting and vulgar letter which results in Mrs. Karlson forcing Albert and his son, Albert Jr. to leave the apartment.

By 1924 Fish had murdered a boy scout named Francis McDonnell and later Billy Gaffney in 1927. In 1928 he visited the Budd family while under the name “Frank Howard” with the pretense of hiring Edward Budd for work but decided to chose 10 year old Grace Budd instead after encountering her. He convinced the Budd family that he had a niece who was celebrating her birthday and gave them a false address and they allowed the 10 year old Grace to come with him to the supposed party where he lured her to abandoned home and killed her.

Suspects such as Charles Pope were arrested for the murder but were let go. In 1934 Fish antagonized the Budd family with letters describing horrific details about the murder which led the police to catching him. During his arrest Albert pulled out a knife and tried to attack the police but was subdued. Albert Fish was tried and sentenced to death and in 1936 he was executed by an electric chair.
