Alcyone is an antagonist of Magic Knight Rayearth.

In the original Japanese, she was voiced by Yuri Amano. In the English dub, she was voiced by Barbara Goodson.

Biography

Alcyone was a former student of Master Mage Clef who specialized in ice magic. At an unknown point before the story, Alcyone was recruited by High Priest Zagato and fell in (unrequited) love with him.

After Princess Emeraude manages to summon three girls from Earth to become the Legendary Magic Knights, Alcyone is sent by Zagato to kill them. She is delayed by Clef, her former mentor, before she summons a monster to occupy him and resumes her pursuit. Alcyone manages to catch up to the Knights but is then overwhelmed by Hikaru's use of fire magic.

After waiting just outside the Forest of Silence, where magic couldn't be used, Alcyone grievously wounds Umi just as the girls emerge. She then manages to overwhelm Hikaru, only to be vanquished in turn by Umi's water magic. Defeated, Alcyone returns to Zagato's castle and pleads for another chance. In the manga, she is killed by Zagato, thus ending her story.

In the anime, Alcyone is simply spurned, and after Zagato and Emeraude's deaths, she is recruited and brainwashed by Debonair. After Alcyone is captured and imprisoned in the Castle of Cephiro, she is used by Debonair as a gateway for the latter's monsters to attack the castle and is stripped of her memories. After regaining her memories, Alcyone betrays Debonair and is killed shortly thereafter.

Trivia

• Her name is occasionally mis-Romanized as "Alcione"--this was featured in the first run of the English translation. Her name comes from the Subaru Alcyone SVX.
• Her Magical Powers is Cryomancy (Ice Magic) was based on the Snow Queen by their same powers.
