Alejandro Burromuerto is a major antagonist in the Canadian animated franchise Total Drama.

He is a charming and persuasive young man who joins Total Drama after working for Chris McLean, bent on winning the million dollars prize like every contestant. However, despite posing as a friendly competitor, Alejandro proves to be one of the show's most ruthless contestants, manipulating most of his fellow contestants (mostly the girls) to get further into the competition through his charms and lies, which puts him at romantic odds with Heather, the show's most prominent antagonist.

In Total Drama Action and Total Drama World Tour, he was voiced by Marco Grazzini, who also played Tar Pit in The Flash. While on the Drama Machine, he was voiced by Keith Oliver. In Total Drama All-Stars, he was voiced by Alex House, who also played his older brother José in the same season.

Appearance

Alejandro is a Spanish young man with a tan skin tone, long dark brown hair and mint green eyes. He wears a maroon open shirt over a white sando, a bull necklace, silver bracelets; his right bracelet has black stripes and somewhat bigger, silver hoop earrings, dark green pants and black-brown designer heeled boots.

Personality

At first glance, Alejandro presents himself as a typical "Latin Lover" and a "Dashing Hispanic", very charming, respectful, gentlemanly, polite, friendly, and flirty with girls he is interested in. He also acts friendly with guys, which some do express interest in him too. While some of this is true, his real self is far more different.

Alejandro is shown to be a cunning and manipulative individual who uses his looks as shown throughout Total Drama: World Tour when he flirts with the female contestants just to later have them eliminated once they have served his cause enough. He even threw Leshawna out of the plane after manipulating her with no remorse, along with the fact he witnessed her attacking his crush in an overly brutal manner. He happily acknowledges his villainous side, even thinking he's worse than his future girlfriend Heather, viewing her as a saint in comparison. Before, he would do anything to keep others from knowing his true self, from trying to befriend them, or trying to get them eliminated before they spill the beans. He normally keeps his thoughts to himself in public and vents when alone in the confessional. After everyone became aware of who he really is, he embraced his horrible nature. He generally keeps his cool when someone aggravates him, but snaps when pushed too far. He has a surprisingly good handle with animals to the point of being able to tame them whether they are wild or unfriendly.

Alejandro hates being nicknamed, specifically called "Al" when he was bullied by his older, smarter, better looking brother, José. Because of this, he ends up harbouring a hatred towards Owen who calls him Al many times throughout the season, causing Alejandro to manipulate everyone into voting him out. He revealed that his life was ruined because José has been better than him at everything such as academics, sports and even personal grooming. He hates José so much, he refuses to even mention him despite proudly talking about the rest of his family.

In Total Drama All-Stars, his better side is seen. Although he still tries to manipulate people in the early episodes of the season, he has a kinder and more friendly side. In “Mood Madness” he saves Heather’s life from falling out of a cliff. Later on, he tried to help out Cameron from falling to a river to save his life and tried to warn everyone about Mal (Including Mike’s girlfriend, Zoey), showing he didn't generally try to hurt people deeply during this season. Despite wanting to fight his brother, José, Alejandro follows his family's moral code when only doing body hits and agreeing to not hit anyone in the face. Even before, he made it clear he normally doesn't make it personal when carrying out his schemes.

Alejandro rarely talks with contractions and occasionally speaks in a poetic manner when he's flirting or manipulating someone. He speaks in English most of the time but switches to his native language, which is Spanish, when he's upset or by himself. He sometimes makes grammar mistakes and mixes-up metaphors.

Relationship with Heather

He has a love-hate relationship with Heather, the only girl he legitimately loves. Unlike how he behaved with most girls, where he pretends to care about them but actually hates them, he gradually acts just like a tsundere and dorodere with her, in which he acts like he hates her but in reality loves her more than anything. On one hand he shamelessly flirts with and playfully teases Heather more so than he does with other girls, which he's sincere about unlike his fake flirting, and acknowledges her feelings towards him. He developed a huge crush on her over time after realizing they have a lot more in common than he thought and that she loves his real self more. He grew to be extremely protective of her, from viciously attacking José for insulting her, to even risking his life by shielding her from danger. Instead of pretending to be a good person while alone with each other, he is himself as she knows this is who he really is.

On the other hand, he sees her as his biggest threat towards the competition, both because she quickly saw right through him and she proven to be his equal in almost everything. He would go out on his way to make sure he doesn't lose to her. Anytime there was evidence or even someone suggesting his crush, he would get extremely defensive and tried to make excuses for his behavior. He would make slip-ups such as pointing out her positive qualities and accidentally get into positions that come off as compromising. Over time, he accepted his feelings and openly expressed them. Despite claiming he hates how Heather can get on his nerves, he made it clear he prefers her rude, overbearing self over her acting sweet and kind as it terrifies him, and seems to enjoy how she is with him.

While he eventually forgive her for what happened during World Tour, he wanted to get even with her, and succeeded. After losing the competition, he and Heather started dating, and became extremely affectionate towards each other. The two mentioned the money was the reason they weren't able to be together, and were extremely happy to be together. However, as soon as the money was up for grabs, he reverts back to his usual dynamic with her.

• Manipulation - Alejandro's greatest strength is his ability to smooth talk anyone. His manipulative nature can still work even if someone knows he isn't trustworthy.
• Charisma - Thanks to his charming nature, he can get girls to fall in love with him even if they are already in a relationship or are aware of his real self. His charms also work on animals or animalistic beings.
• Academics - Alejandro has an IQ of 163 and being on the honor roll in his high school.
• Athleticism - Alejandro has great athletic abilities such as being able to jump high, gifted in balancing, carry heavy objects, contort himself to tying his hair with his feet in his boots, swim long distances, and walking on his hands for a long time.
• Hypnotism - He learned from his uncle how to hypnotize people.
• Multilingualism - He can speak English, Spanish, and Japanese fluently.

Weaknesses

• Heather - Alejandro developed a crush on Heather which has distracted him from performing well which led to his downfall.
• Fussy eating - Alejandro is a very picky eater both due to his extremely weak stomach and his refusal to eat anything that could ruin his image. He will not eat any foods that are processed, contain chemicals and artificial dyes, greasy, too sweet for his taste, alive, unhealthy, contaminated, unorthodox, disgusting, or simply taste terrible. He would gag at the mere thought of eating something disgusting, and would vomit from the first taste, smell, or even sight.
• Muscle Atrophy - Alejandro had developed temporary muscle atropy on his legs after a year in the Drama Machine and not being able to move gis his legs. He regained feeling shortly after.
• Jose Burromuerto - Jose is his older brother who surpassed him in everything which led to being a sensitive subject for him. The mere name is enough to anger him. He was able to put Jose in his place in Suckers Punched.
• Narcissism - Like Heather, he is a narcissist and appealing to it can lower his guard.

Trivia

• Alejandro Burromuerto is arguably the most successful antagonist in the Total Drama franchise, but he is still a failure on some occasions. But he also is the only antagonist aside from Heather to retain a romantic relationship with their love interest. However, he did not really win Total Drama World Tour since the prize money was destroyed and he ended up heavily injured, resulting in him ending up in a robot for a year and his efforts in the season add up to nothing.
• Alejandro, along with Jo and Don, is the only character to be voiced by a staff writer for Total Drama at one point. In his case, he was voiced by Keith Oliver, upon being placed in the Drama Machine, after the events of "Hawaiian Punch”.
• As well as playing the two major antagonist roles in World Tour and All Stars, Alejandro also appeared as the false antagonist in Total Drama: Action Reunion Special and a minor character in Total Drama: Revenge of the Island (while still in his robot suit).
• Alejandro's relationship with Heather is rather ironic for several reasons:
  • Heather is the first person to see through his nice guy act and tries to warn everyone how dangerous he is which resulted in her becoming his biggest rival aside from José, yet she is the only girl he truly loves.
  • While most girls' crushes on him are rather superficial because they only liked his "Latin Lover" front and lose interest once it was clear he is a male Heather, Heather hates his facade and loves him for who he is because how similar they are.
    • The girls who were crushing on him were generally decent people, Heather is rather shallow and cruel, something that he is attracted to.
  • Alejandro, despite how openly flirty he is, turns out to be massive tsundere like Heather, the one girl he legitimately loves, while he acted like a nice, perfect, doting guy with girls he isn't interested in.
• His phrase "Dead donkeys don't talk" from Total Drama All-Stars became an Internet meme.
