“ | So far you have dealt with my conventional forces. Undergoing final preparations for launch at a secret location is a little surprise that has, shall we say, come into my possession. Yes Colonel Blake. I am stronger than you thought. I have captured one of your elite men. He will be executed as an example, and then all of you will die. Unless... unless you leave these islands - Kolgujev, Everon, and Malden. This is OUR land! THIS IS THE LAND OF MOTHER RUSSIA! | „ |

Aleksei Vasilii Guba is the main antagonist in the videogame ArmA: Cold War Assault's also known as Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis.
Biography[]
In 1985, Guba, now a General, conducted an unauthorized invasion of the independent islands of Everon and Malden, exploiting Gorbachev’s reforms. Despite initial successes, NATO forces began to counterattack, forcing Guba back to Kolgujev. As defeat loomed, he resorted to threatening nuclear action against NATO. However, U.S. special forces infiltrated his base, disarmed his nuclear capabilities, and ultimately captured him after a final confrontation. Guba’s fate post-capture remains uncertain.
A driven officer in the Red Army, Guba previously led the Soviet 3rd Army. By 1948, he became the Commandant of a gulag in Siberia, gaining infamy for his ruthless tactics, which led to his chilling moniker, "The Dentist," though the origin of this title is uncertain. After a rumored transfer to a KGB unit in 1964 under Leonid Brezhnev, he later returned to the military, now a Colonel, and commanded a mechanized unit stationed near Nogova.
In 1982, following a meeting with a Nogovan Communist leader, Guba launched a military invasion of Nogova to impose socialist order, claiming to prevent a descent into corruption. Despite local leaders urging peace, Guba's forces crushed the island's militia, executing the president and imposing strict controls on the populace. Resistance fighters known as the Nogovan Partisans formed, led by Victor Troska, a special forces operative. Troska’s skilled leadership turned the tide, allowing the resistance to mount fierce counterattacks against Guba's superior forces.
After Troska's team received covert support from NATO, Guba attempted to manipulate negotiations by holding civilians hostage, including Troska's love interest, Liz. However, an ambush plan backfired, resulting in further defeats for Guba's troops. Liz’s death only fueled the insurgency, leading to a successful attack on the capital. As Guba’s control unraveled, he resorted to violent retaliations, including a disastrous retreat that left him humiliated.
In 1985, now promoted to General, Guba illegally invaded the islands of Everon and Malden during Gorbachev's reforms, quickly overpowering opposition. When U.S. forces attempted to intervene, Guba responded with overwhelming force. Despite his initial gains, NATO soon began to push back, exposing Guba’s actions as independent from Moscow.
As NATO regrouped and counterattacked, Guba escalated tensions by threatening to launch a nuclear missile. Yet, his plans crumbled when American special forces infiltrated his base, disabling his missile and capturing him in a final confrontation. His subsequent arrest leaves his future uncertain as he faces the possibility of war crimes charges.
Personality[]
Guba was a ruthless man fixated on victory, even if it meant destruction or his own demise. For him, terms like "losing" were unacceptable; he contemplated wiping out Nogova to avoid defeat, indifferent to the lives lost. Paranoid and distrustful, he rarely trusted anyone, not even his loyal followers, with only fleeting trust given to his lover, Angelina, whose death he soon regretted.
Despite his extremism, Guba believed he was fighting for Russia’s rightful claims, disregarding Moscow’s disapproval of his invasions.
