The Alien Cell is a central device to the plot of Contra Hard Corps, acting as the final boss in all routes but in different forms.

Story[]

The Alien Cell was a sample of alien biomass, which was collected at the end of the Alien Wars and secured inside a military compound under the supervision of Dr. Geo Mandrake. Geo Mandrake allies himself with Colonel Bahamut, who planned to use the Alien Cell to create a dangerous weapon to take over the world. What becomes of the Alien Cell depends on the player choices during the game:

  • If the player decides to pursue Deadeye Joe and Surrender and Fight Later, Bahamut will succeed in hooking up the Alien Cell to his Space Station's cannon, which he calls Big Magnum (named after the immense world-destroying power the Alien Cell can produce from said cannon). The player has then to fight Big Magnum and Bahamut, which upon being destroyed kills Bahamut and makes his space station explode, along with the heroes inside.
  • If the player decides to pursue Deadeye Joe and Fight to the End, it is revealed Bahamut intends to turn the Alien Cell into a powerful Bio-weapon. However, the Alien Cell goes out of control and takes over Bahamut's base, infesting the place and mutating the soldiers inside, turning the base into an alien stronghold. The players fight thru wave after wave of alien hordes until they eventually reach an egg chamber containing a hatched Mother Alien, a mutated form of the villainous Emperor Demon Gava. This deceitful female-looking creature battles the heroes until its death takes them to the Cell's heart, a revived and mutated Gomera Mosking. Upon the alien heart's destruction, the infestation ends but Bahamut escapes.
  • If the player decides to save the Laboratory and Surrender and Fight Later, Bahamut will use the Alien Cell to power himself up, but the Alien Cell eventually takes over his mind and mutates him into a scary and grotesque monster. Both he and the Alien Cell are killed by the Hard Corps.
  • If the player decides to save the Laboratory and Fight to the End, after Bahamut is defeated, he launches a rocket with the Alien Cell inside before dying, attempting to burn the world "in the flames of hell!". The heroes pursue the giant rocket, but the Alien Cell starts breaking free and reveals many portions and spawns of itself. Its core form is that of a mutated mass of blob with human faces and blood, fought as the final boss. It is ultimately eliminated, and its death causes the doomsday rocket to explode.

Trivia[]

  • In the Japanese script, it is implied there is more than one cell stored.
  • It is also implied that the cell(s) originated from Red Falcon's leader Emperor Demon Gava or its brain mass Searle, the two final bosses shown at the end of the Alien Wars. This would explain the similar looking creatures seen throughout the Alien's Lair stage.
