The Visitors (or simply known as "Aliens") are the overarching antagonists of the South Park franchise.
Almost all episodes of the show have the alien visitors hidden in random spots, which is meant to be a contest for the viewers. This has reduced as the show went on.
They are voiced by Trey Parker in all of their appearances. He also voices countless other characters in the show, such as Eric Cartman and Satan.
History[]
The aliens are arguable the most enigmatic creatures in the show. Their history is never touched upon, but one thing that is almost definitely for certain, is that they've likely existed far longer than humans have. This is evidenced by the fact that their technology is far superior to ours.
They can travel to the solar system with seemingly no effort. Their location in the universe is never shown, although their technology can broadcast so far that it can reach other planets in other systems.
Cartman Gets an Anal Probe[]
In the show's very first episode, they debut as the main antagonists. Eric Cartman states to his friends that he's had strange dreams of being abducted by aliens, being probed, then erasing Cartman's memory, an event soon confirmed to be true. As The Boys ride the school bus, Kyle Broflovski notices out the back window that his little brother, Ike, is about to be kidnapped by the exact same aliens Cartman was speaking of.
Cartman's proof of his abduction is a robotic mechanism placed in his anus, which causes him to periodically fart fire. With Kyle hellbent on leaving school and rescuing his abducted brother, the fire alarm is pulled. Cartman is suddenly hit by an alien beam that hypnotizes him into singing "I Love to Singa". An alien spaceship then flies down, and Kyle throws a rock at it. The spaceship returns fire, but hits Kenny McCormick, sending him flying into the street and nearly killing him, though he is soon killed afterward when being hit by a car. This moment becomes a recurring joke throughout the series.
Cows in South Park have been turned inside out by the aliens, but this was revealed to be an accident by one alien named "Carl". In an attempt for Kyle to get his brother back, Cartman is used as bait for the aliens to return, which they do. Ike escapes the approaching alien ship by jumping off, although Cartman is abducted again. The next morning before school, the aliens release Cartman by dropping him from a long height, where he is seen to have pink eye.
Cancelled[]
The episode is also known as "Cartman Gets an Anal Probe Redux". Though this is the 97th episode of the show, the beginning of the episode echoes the first one almost scene for scene. The episode also takes place six years after the first. Cartman is once again abducted with an alien device placed in his anus like before, and The Boys realize they are living in a loop.
Chef takes Cartman to see a proctologist, where the device expands out of Cartman's anus and takes the form of a large satellite. Chef and The Boys then see Jeff Goldblum (who is a scientist in the show), where Goldblum manages to see where the alien device is broadcasting to. After this, the aliens show up in person to abduct anyone interfering with their plans. Chef attempts to drive The Boys to safety, but they (except Chef) get abducted anyway.
The Boys wake up on an alien ship, floating in space. There, they meet Najix, a television show producer that shape-shifts into a taco that craps ice cream - a sight that seems to be the "most pleasing" to The Boys without scaring them. Najix explains that the device in Cartman's anus was malfunctioning, and was meant to be a broadcaster (out of many others in Earth) to turn Earth into a TV show for other planets to enjoy.
Najix also reveals that all life on Earth was not how the planet started, and explains that every animal and race of human was taken from other planets and placed on Earth to see how they would all react to each other, thus creating the TV show for others to enjoy. More aliens are seen working at computers and desks, trying to maintain the aforementioned TV show.
Jeff Goldblum, at the same time, reveals to the people of Earth that their lives are nothing but a TV show. The people of Earth react with excitement that they are famous, but the aliens are displeased by this, because humans knowing they are on a show would ruin the fun of watching them. The aliens soon decide to "cancel" Earth by trying to destroy with a massive wrecking ball. Jeff Goldblum tries to send a virus to the aliens' computers to stop the destruction.
The Boys try to convince the producers of Earth, which are a different kind of aliens known as the "Joozians" (which are stereotypes of Jewish people). After The Boys get embarrassing information on the producers, an agreement is made for everyone on Earth to have their memories erased, so the show is no longer spoiled, in exchange for The Boys not releasing the embarrassing information.
1997 South Park video game[]
The game is separated into five chapters, and the aliens return to South Park in only the third one. The chapter is called "Close Encounters of The Bovine Kind". The aliens play a similar role as they did in the show's first episode. First, they drive cows mad and make them attack humans and violently stampede over South Park. Later in the chapter, the aliens appear in person, and are able to attack the players by sending telekinetic waves from their heads.
The Boys defeat the aliens by destroying the core of their mothership. After this, the aliens likely admit defeat.
South Park: The Stick of Truth[]
The aliens once again torment the people of South Park, including The New Kid. When The New Kid is attempting to sleep on his first night in South Park, the aliens surround The New Kid and abduct him. It is shown that other residents of the town were kidnapped, and are being probed. Because The New Kid has unnaturally strong anus muscles, all the probes the aliens try to use on him fail miserably. Part of the second probe is still stuck inside The New Kid's anus, which allows limited teleportation.
Randy Marsh is also on the ship, and assists The New Kid in freeing both of himself and The New Kid. During this part of the game, the aliens are the primary antagonists, constantly fighting The New Kid as he tries to escape the ship. Eventually, The New Kid defeats the alien ship's pilots, which causes it to crash in South Park, releasing a toxic goo that turns people into Nazi Zombies.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole[]
The aliens play a very minor role in this sequel. One alien accompanies The New Kid as an ally, but only during one of Cartman's stories (depending on which class the player picks).
One also briefly appears in a dark room the New Kid enters before facing two perverted priests.
Appearance[]
They take on the appearance of standard, stereotypical grey aliens commonly seen in media. However, instead of these aliens being shorter than humans of average height like the media would commonly portray, they are much taller than virtually all humans in the show.
Personality[]
The personality of the aliens is just as ambiguous as their intents, in that given the show's very long run, their personality is still very indeterminate, though there are some specific factors to their behavior. The visitors, seemingly, and constantly abduct people and probe them - a common trope tied with alien abduction.
Exactly why they abduct and probe people are unknown, but it can be assumed that this is their way of learning about humans. It is extremely rare that the aliens speak, but when they do, they only repeat the word "moo", as they find cows to be the most intelligent humans on Earth, not humans.
They seem to show no hesitation nor remorse, not only for abducting humans, but trying to destroy Earth after life on the planet found out it was a show, therefore it was to be assumed "the show wouldn't be good anymore." Despite all this, there seems to be some shred of morality in them, as they aren't seen directly killing anyone they abduct, as they drop off their victims back on Earth after harshly probing them.
Trivia[]
- The appearance of these aliens are based on the Barney and Betty Hill abduction, which highly popularized the image of grey aliens.
- The Visitors' home planet is seen in the episode "The Red Badge of Gayness".
- There is a large discrepency in how the Earth was formed in the show. In the episode "Cancelled", it is stated that the aliens have found different species (and races of people) on different planets and placed them all on Earth for the sake of creating an intergalactic TV show. However, God has appeared on the show, and has purported that he created the entirety of Earth himself; this is further hinted during his conversations with Satan and Jesus Christ. It is highly possible that the setup of the episode "Cancelled" does not have any continuity in other episodes, and only exists in that one episode.
