~ Alina Gray renouncing her allegiance with the Wings of Magius. |
Alina Gray is the main antagonist of the 2020 anime series Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story, and adaptation of the game of the same name. Originally one of the 3 leaders of the Wings of Magius alongside of Touka Satomi and Nemu Hiiragi, she eventually loses interest their plans to save all magical girls from their fates of becoming Witches, Alina betrays the Wings of Magius as she sets out to control Embryo Eve for her own nefarious ends. She is noticeably even nastier than her original game counterpart, lacking even a hint of humanity that she had to become a self-centered sadist by the end rather than redeeming herself.
She is voiced in Japanese by Ayana Taketatsu and in the English dub by Cherami Leigh.
Personality[]
Alina is a complete psychopath. While her 2 partners are all people who take immoral lengths for the sake of saving their fellow Magical Girls in the long run from their eventual fate, Alina is completely bored out of her mind when it comes to their agenda, feeling it does no correlate with her sadism. She also has a highly dismissive views of morality an good and evil, viewing them as nothing more than jokes and people wanting to be heroes are naive and foolish and worthy to be scoffed at by her. However, Alina's most notable trait is her sense of sadism. Equating suffering with art, Alina finds it more fun inflicting misery onto others than relieving or managing with her own, trying to find the most creatively brutal ways to have her victims and enemies suffer, believing that having to suffer in what is to her, in such artistic manner, is something they have to thank her for. This sadism translates into respect for some mild respect for Touka and Nemu, in which she may care any less for their agenda and the world they want to create for their fellow magical girls, but respects their willingness to kill countless people for them and would gleefully further their plans to see it through. All in all, Alina is a self-centered sadist who will gladly relinquish her humanity to become a witch, a fate she had been escaping from before, just so she can gleefully set the world aflame turning all humans to witches as her ultimate art piece.
Appearance[]
Alina is a young girl with pale skin, turquoise eyes and loose flowing long hair that is lime in colour and has yellow highlights. She mostly appears in her magical girl dress, which is themed as that of a Warden represented by the police hat she wears on her head. She also wears a rainbow dress with a black ribbon and scrunchies on her wrists. She also places her soul gem in a ribbon around her neck like a necktie.
Biography[]
It is unknown on what Alina's background actually is and why she became a Magical Girl, but as a magical Girl Alina has been obssessed with art and had been correlating it with her hidden sadism. Upon learning that the intended fate of all Magical Girls are to be consumed by despair and be Witches to be slain, Alina attacks and kills one of Kyubey's avatars to vent her frustration before overhearing Ui Tamaki, Touka and Nemu's plan to save all Magical Girls from their fate. Alina joins in because it could save her skin and be used to fit her psychotic cravings as an artist. She then creates the barrier around Kamihama City as she forms the Wings of magius alongside Touka and Nemu and create the doppel system to have their fellow magical girls turn into Uwasas, beings no different than witches, to collect emotional energy for the Magius to ultimately free Magical Girls, in expense of mass casualties in a global scale.
Alina debuts in the ninth episode of the series "A World with Just Me", in which she invades the never-ending realm created by an Uwasa named Ai/endless Solitude who gained sentience and wants nothing to do with the Magius' plan. Upon learning that Ai had asked Iroha Tamaki to erase her to free her friend, Sana Futaba, Alina sadistically attempts to kill Sana and Iroha to spite Ai and make them "works of art". While Ai teleports Alina out, she ends up landing a mortal blow using her Doppel attack that slowly corrupts Ai, forcing Sana to mercy-kill her. Appearing in the next episode "My name", she witnesses Iraho and Sana returning, to which she uses a Witch she controls to attack them and their friends, and even 2 of her own underlings that get caught in the crossfire. However, Mami Tomeo, who is also a member of the Magius in this series, steps in and fends her off. She then reappears in the series finale "A Faint Hope", Alina appears watching Touka Satomi's speech to the Magius from afar, before stepping out and musing about her eagerness for the arrival of the cataclysmic witch, Walpurgisnacht.
In her sole appearance in Season 2, when the Magius' plans for the Uwasas finally begin to have death all across the world to relieve magical girls of their misery, she ends up taking Mifuyu away when she confronts Touka and Nemu on the immorality of their plan, to which leaving her out she reveals she has gotten bored of the Uwasa's plans and the vision of the world and for magical girls as it does not correlate with her flashily artistic sadism and decides to renounce her loyalties and leave the place, not appearing until Season 3.
Appearing in the penultimate episode of Season 3, Alina gleefully watches the fruits of her contributions as one of the Magius' leaders as they initiate their plot to have Kamihama city destroyed as a start of all the worldwide death and destruction that will occur and make a painting of it. When Kyubey voices his dissatisfaction, Alina hints at her larger plans as she teases on how she intends to wipe out the Incubators soon. When Touka and Nemu are talked into abandoning their plan, Alina comes in to reveal that she had been simply using them as means to achieve her plan of fusing with Emryo Eve and absorb Walpurgisnacht's power to turn all of humanity and have their hopes completely destroyed to transform them all into witches. Alina then gleefully abandons the rest of her humanity and becomes a witch to take control over Embryo Eve and destroy the barrier around Kamihama and charges forward. However Touka and Nemu give up their lives to restrain her. However Iroha then connects with the powers of surrounding magical girls and of their fallen friends who have all died in the skirmish to thwart Alina's insanity, Iroha was able to launch an attack that puts an end to Alina's depravity.
