Alistair Banks is a major antagonist of the Channel 4 British soap opera drama Hollyoaks.

Originally making minor appearences in between the years 2013-2023 altogether, he later became a central character in 2024 and ended up serving as one of the overarching antagonists in 2025.

He was portrayed by Drew Cain.

Biography[]

Alistair Banks was known to be a police detective inspector who often worked in the village Hollyoaks over the years, specifically in the years 2013 and 2023 at the time.

The following year in 2024, Banks started to appear regularly as he conducted many police cases at the time. One such matter was investigating the village's local hardman and criminal kingpin, Warren Fox, on suspicion of murdering the latter's mother Norma Crow back in July 2024 that year; in reality, Norma had actually been killed by one of Warren's enemies named Dave Williams.

It was then over the following year that Banks became corrupt and start leading a human trafficking operation, which also involves drug smuggling but mainly specialises in sexual child exploitation at the time. He forms a partnership with gangster Grace Black when she sets out to expand her illict activities and to seek revenge on her rival Mercedes McQueen by framing her for the murder of domestic abuser Abe Fielding, who had in fact been murdered by serial killer Jeremy Blake at the time.

Soon enough Banks attempted to murder his colleague, Donny Clark, when the latter had gradually uncovered his corrupt activities. Banks had also forced Grace to collude in his scheme to sell a group of preteen youngsters, including local resident Frankie Osbourne, in an auction; this involves kidnapping Grace's old lover Robbie Roscoe and attempting to silence Frankie's father Darren when he sought to rescue her. Banks later took Frankie alongside both her friends Dillon Ray and Vicky Grant hostage; as both Dillon and Vicky were also victims of the human trafficking operation. But then the teenagers worked together to escape until Banks confronted them at gunpoint. However, the trio each had their own guns and ended up shooting Banks dead before he can open fire.

No sooner after Banks' death, it was revealed that he had been married to Grace's half-sister Clare Devine and that she was the mastermind behind Banks' human trafficking operation all along. Clare later returned to the village and caused trouble once again, partially to avenge Banks after it was disclosed that he had saved her life following her presumed death over a decade ago.

Trivia[]

  • He made a total of 69 appearences during his time on the show.
